Partnering for Economic Justice We announced a new partnership with NYC’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection to fight wage theft, tenant harassment, and fraud targeting immigrants. The collaboration will more efficiently crack down on unlawful practices and hold those who harm workers, tenants, immigrants and other New Yorkers accountable. “We need all hands on deck to protect the New Yorkers who are bearing the brunt of the affordability crisis,” said D.A. Bragg. “One of my top priorities as District Attorney is taking on bad actors that target vulnerable Manhattanites through wage theft, scams, tenant harassment, and more.”
Driving Down Gun Violence D.A. Bragg stood with the NYPD Commissioner and fellow law enforcement officials to highlight our joint efforts to combat gun violence and build safer communities. “The removal of 3,000 firearms reflects the progress we can make when law enforcement acts as one team,” said D.A. Bragg.
In Manhattan, incidents of shots fired are down 59% compared to 2021. Our collaboration with the NYPD and law enforcement partners is crucial to this success and we will continue doing the work to drive down cycles of gun violence.

Murders and shootings are also down so far this year compared to 2021. There is always more work to do, but our comprehensive strategy to combat gun violence with our law enforcement partners is working.

Securing Accountability in Court Curtis Brown was convicted at trial for trafficking two women, including his wife and mother of his child, in a brutally violent prostitution operation over the course of more than a decade. “For more than a decade, Curtis Brown profited from this extremely controlling, coercive, and violent operation,” said D.A. Bragg. “After his arrest, he threatened to kill her if she testified, on top of committing perjury by repeatedly lying about his actions.”

Bragg.
We also announced the indictment of David Aguero for allegedly defrauding multiple homeless shelter residents in an apartment voucher and credit card theft scheme. “Shelter residents trusted David Aguero, a housing specialist, to help them secure stable places to live. As alleged, Aguero broke their trust and stole thousands of dollars from them,” said D.A. Bragg.
