Big news if you are a fan of the absurd hospital sitcom Green Wing. The series, which ran on Channel 4 before 2004 and 2007 and was put together by the same team behind Smack the Pony has been revived (!) as a podcast (!!).
The series ran on Channel 4 between 2004 and 2007. Now 15 years on, it is back as Green Wing: Resuscitated, with six episodes now available to listen to. Many of the original cast have reprised their roles too, with a cast starring Olivia Colman, Oliver Chris, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Tamsin Greig, Stephen Mangan, Mark Heap, Michelle Gomez and Pippa Haywood. And the reviews have been positive, with Fiona Sturges in the Financial Times writing that an “anarchic energy of the original remains.”
The only hitch is that the series does stretch what a podcast is these days. The series is not only on Audible, which itself is a bit of a walled garden, but it will cost one of your credits, which means that the podcast is not a free listen for existing subscribers. Although, I bet that won’t stop fans from listening anyway. And these sorts of large productions aren’t cheap to put together either. |

FFS! My Dad is Martin Kemp |
Roman Kemp, fresh from leaving Capital Breakfast, has just launched a new podcast with his dad Martin Kemp.
The idea behind the podcast is that by making the series, Roman will now be able to build an archive of conversations with his Dad that he will be able to keep long after Martin has gone (apparently), but it’s also an excuse for a podcast with interesting and amusing witterings between two well-known broadcasters.
They even managed to make the topic of the first episode of their podcast (which is death) to be lighthearted and entertaining, which is some feat in itself.

Harry Hill’s ‘Are We There Yet?’ |
A new family friendly interview podcast hosted by Harry Hill, with episodes perfect in length for the school run.
And, as you would expect with a podcast hosted by Harry Hill, the whole thing is completely silly and unpredictable. Each guest (so far there’s been Alan Carr, Ravneet Gill and Suzi Ruffell) is introduced with a biography formulated by an AI chatbot. And at the start of one episode, Hill introduces some seals who can apparently perform Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes.
Nothing can replace TV Burp (nothing will). But for fans of Hill, this is sublime.

By following Your Next Podcast every week you'll have a brand new show ready to listen to without doing any work. That's what the host Lauren Layfield does.
This week it's Black Box. At some point in the past few years, humanity collided with a new kind of intelligence. And things are getting strange. People are being accused of crimes by algorithms; falling in love with digital beings; pioneering new ways to fight old diseases; turning to machines for comfort in their worst moments, and using artificial intelligence to commit - and hide from - terrible crimes. The Guardian’s Michael Safi investigates the story of a technology so complex that its own creators have no idea what it is thinking, and captures a snapshot of the era when people first made contact with AI

Michael Spicer, the creator of the funny internet series The Room Next Door (videos when he pretends to be an advisor giving advice to those involved in legendarily bad interviews or PR disasters), is now behind a sharp satirical sketch show that picks apart news, politics and our celebrity obsessed culture in 15 minute episodes.
Four episodes are currently available. Satirical sketch shows are a hard thing to pull off, particularly in an age where real life feels like a surreal sketch show, but Spicer manages to do it with ease. Honestly, what a talent.
