FOUNDER’S HELLO
22 is the milestone. We just passed it on 9/22/2022. That's how many years CAI has been on the air and in our lives. That means twenty-two years of reporting on primaries and elections, sunshine and tornadoes, beach bans and beach openings, solar, wind and nuclear power, etc. For all things local, national, and international, CAI has been a vital provider of information you can rely on. And, it hasn’t been all news all the time. We are also a source of local inspiration about food, fishing, books, birds, gardening, history, and personal stories. We’ve all grown over the last 22 years, and I believe WCAI has strengthened our community though shared stories. CAI works to build a neighborly attitude. These are tough times, and we need the information, knowledge, and heart to reckon with them. That's what we've tried to offer for 22 years, and what we'll keep offering, with your help. Thank you.

Founder and Executive Producer, CAI Public Radio
Host and Producer, The Moth Radio Hour
Sunday Evening Host, Arts and Ideas

Info to enhance your listening experience
Get ready for the midterm elections by tuning into The Middle Radio, a live national conversation elevating the voices of Americans who live between the coasts, to be aired on CAI October 19, 26, November 2, and 9. Hosted by Jeremy Hobson, the show will consist of four live specials based on the midterm elections. Voters in the middle of the country have so much sway in our politics but don't get paid much attention by the mainstream media. This is a live, evening, call-in show, airing at 9pm ET.
Last newsletter we announced that the search was on for a new host of the NPR pop culture show It’s Been a Minute, airing on CAI Saturdays 6-7pm. 404 member stations weighed in on the selection process and new host Brittany Luse has taken the mic. Brittany is best known for hosting the podcasts Colored Nerds and The Nod. Sam Sanders will be a hard act to follow, but we welcome Brittany and wish her all the best.
FC APPLAUSE
Founders Circle members and staff in our communities
A huge round of applause goes to Founders Circle member, and Jay Allison Founders Fund for Matching Gifts contributor, Bonnie Simon, for hosting an event on our behalf in her home. Guests were treated to an organ and flute concert, with organist Lore De Bower, (also a Founders Circle member) performing a selection of short works on the Mander Organ, built in London in 1992 for Maestro Steven Simon. We can’t thank you enough for opening your home and inviting your friends to meet our Founder Jay Allison and Host of The Point, Mindy Todd.
We also applaud Nantucket listener, CAI fan, and Founders Circle member John DeCiccio for his love and commitment to both CAI and the New York Metropolitan Opera. It is not surprising to encounter a CAI Public Radio listener whose passions lie in arts and culture. We hope that John got to attend opening night in person when the 2022-23 season got underway on September 27 with Medea. Mr. DeCiccio reminds us that if you can’t get to New York, the live HD cinema versions of the MET’s performances are available in the CAI listening region at Martha’s Vineyard Film Center, Cape Cinema in Dennis, Julie Harris Stage in Wellfleet, AMC Dartmouth Mall, or on demand streaming into your home.

Three ways CAI is helping democracy this voting season
Prior to the November 8 elections The Point, our local public affairs show is here for you to continue our long tradition of presenting regional political debates. We will also make these debates available online immediately, to provide you, your neighbors and friends, with the information you need before going to the polls.

On election night every WCAI reporter will be in the field speaking to candidates, and voters, about the issues that matter to our listening region. As voting progresses, Mindy Todd, host of The Point has also invited pertinent guests to discuss the local and state trends and results…. Guest analysts will be Henri Rauschenbach and Paul Niedzwiecki, with NPR providing National results throughout the evening.

Guest Analyst Henri Rauschenbach is a former State Senator and State Representative. He also served as Undersecretary of Administration and Finance, Senior Policy Advisor on Energy to the Governor (Gov. Cellucci and Gov. Swift), and Senior Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor (Gov. Swift).

Guest Analyst Paul Niedzwiecki is Executive Director of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce. He served as a legislative aide to State Representative John Klimm, and legislative aide to State Senator Henri Rauschenbach.
