In your words.
We asked community members to share who, and what, made their 2022 special.

Today's newsletter highlights your answers to celebrate the humans, and the expertise they've gathered and shared, that shone most brightly for you this year. For our part, we're just grateful to be a part of it. And we hope we can give back to you as much as you give to us.

With great affection,
Your Uncommon community team
A straight line from communityβ€”> business impact
We heard one main theme from DevRel and community leaders this year: "I need to draw a straight line from my community work to business impact." Early alignment convos with stakeholders are key to making that happen. To help guide those discussions, we offer this free guide.

⭐ Community standouts that brightened our 2022
Every year's beginning comes from some other year's end. We looked back to look forward with our community, who shared about the leaders and lessons that made their 2022 memorable.

✨ Community members who made the year brighter: For their inspirational willingness to share, ideate, teach, learn, and grow together, many of you wanted to highlight the camaraderie and community leadership of Max Pete, Rosie Sherry, DeMario Bell, Scott Baldwin, Regina W, Mara, Josh Grose, and some of the other folks on the Common Room team. We thank you immensely πŸ₯°
πŸ’‘ Content and resources that made the year more educational: The Accidental Community Manager book and author Q&A by Adrian Speyer, blog posts about community metrics and two ways of looking at curves (one about commitment and the other about maturity), David Spinks' post about the community activation point, Katie Ray's CMX presentation about balancing cross-organizational requests, Rosie Sherry's Rosieland world, and Kourosh Ghaffari's Slack Community Manager newsletter
πŸ† Accomplishments that made the year more rewarding: Some of you became new hosts, ambassadors, and champions in your communities, including CMX and here in Uncommon. Many of you started new roles and successfully navigated the joys and challenges of meeting and leading your new communities. Many of you also put together completely new events and community programs. And one of you organized, promoted, and delivered 42 (count them! 42!) events this year. Major applause for each of you and every accomplishment πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
