Hello!
Welcome to Great British Podcasts, let’s have a quick look at upcoming podcasts out in the next month.
British Scandal has become a household name in podcasting thanks to their witty storytelling and interesting choice of stories. And the next one is certainly going to raise some eyebrows: a look at the premiership of Liz Truss as Prime Minister.
Following the success of The Rest is History and The Rest Is Politics, we finally have a date of their new money series. The Rest Is Money will feature reflections on money and business between the broadcaster Steph McGovern and economics expert Robert Peston. It is aiming to have the same in-depth insight but lightness in conversation as the other two series.
Also, before we get on with this week’s newsletter, congratulations to the multi award-winning Beef and Dairy Network a brilliant pastiche of industry podcasts, for reaching 100 episodes.

WEEKLY PICKS
American History Hit
There has been a real rise in the number of podcasts covering American history in the past few months, and the top tier comes from History Hit. Each episode is informative, educational and well produced.
Twice a week Don Wildman is joined by an expert to delve into a pivotal historical moment to separate fact from fiction. A recent episode looked at Pocahontas, telling the real story rather than the story depicted in a Disney film. “I think her life, her real life, is actually more interesting than the movie versions than we have been given,” said Camilla Townsend, an expert in Native American history from Rutgers University. “She should be revered as someone who showed bravery and smarts and not thought of as a silly girl who fell in love with an Englishman.”

WEEKLY PICKS
The Missing Madonna
No, Madonna has not gone missing. You have not been left out of the celebrity news loop this week.
Rather, this new BBC Scotland podcast tells the intriguing story of The Madonna of the Yarnwinder, one of Leonardo da Vinci’s most notable paintings, and how it being swiped from a Scottish castle in 2003 resulted in it becoming Scotland’s biggest ever art heist. Without being too spoilerific, the story about retrieving the painting back involved a partnership between two private investigators, with the daughter of one of the investigators, Olivia Graham, leading this new series.

WEEKLY PICKS
Sara and Cariad’s Weirdos Book Club
A book club for people who simply hate book clubs. There’s no room for wine, weird nibbles and pretending to read the book when you actually haven’t here, as comedians Sara Pascoe and Cariad Lloyd invite you in with upbeat and refreshing chat on what they have been reading over the last week.
The first episode guest is Nish Kumar, who brings with him the book I’m A Fan by Sheena Patel. You don’t need to know about the book before listening, as the chat doesn’t contain too many specific references to the text they are reading, but the enjoyment is certainly enhanced if you do.

WEEKLY PICKS
Waterlands
Our final podcast recommendation is a gentle look at the garden pond, and the rich biodiversity that can exist within them.
Brought to you by the Wildfowl and Wetlands trust and presented by zoologist and Springwatch presenter Megan McCubbin, it explores the animals that exist within the ecosystem and highlights how these ecosystems are at risk. Wetlands have shrunk as a result of the climate crisis, so this series is a bit of a call to arms to make a little habitat of your own (if you can.) And just like other great podcasts that explore the great outdoors, you’ll hear a rich array of sounds from nature weaved in with the narration.
