Hello!
Welcome to Great British Podcasts, hope you’re having a great Sunday.
We’re starting off this week’s newsletter with a quick look at new podcasts covering the latest research in health and wellbeing.
Just One Thing - with Michael Mosley looks at how simple changes in our habits can make us look and feel younger. Each one of these tips have been scientifically proven, as you would expect from a BBC series. Taboo Talk, a new podcast by Boots, recently did a special episode on the signs of burnout (with special guest Dame Kelly Holmes.)
The ADHD Women’s Wellbeing Podcast had an interesting recent episode that looked at lifestyle adjustments you can make to make your life a little bit easier after you have been diagnosed as having ADHD. The Doctor’s Kitchen Podcast looked at how psychedelics have been used to treat depression and anxiety, with special guest Professor David Nutt.
And The Sweat 7 podcast aims to get you up and moving, with exercises and routines that you can complete in only seven minutes. And if you’re thinking about sobriety, Alcohol Free Life by the broadcaster Janey Lee Grace dives into the topic. |
What we've been listening to this week: |
If you have a podcast recommendation that you think everyone should know about, or you want to suggest your own podcast, all you need to do is fill in the forms on our website. |
Following on from the success of The Rest is History (Tom Holland - not the actor and Dominic Sandbrook) and The Rest is Politics (Alistair Campbell and Rory Stewart) and The Rest is Football (Gary Lineker, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer) is now …The Rest is Money! Each episode explores the latest in business, economics and finance with the same lighthearted and conversational chat that has made this brand so popular in such a short space of time.
It’s presented by ITV political editor Robert Peston and Channel 4 broadcaster Steph McGovern (who used to do business news on BBC Breakfast.)
There’s an interesting selection of stories each episode, with their first covering the decline of Wilkos and what it means for the high street, our dependence on ‘critical infrastructure’ (such as air traffic control) and what can happen when it all goes wrong and why the French government is paying their farmers to destroy its wine surplus. Sacré bleu.

The podcast company Noiser, behind Real Dictators and Short History Of…, are great storytellers. There’s also nothing quite like a great survival story, so this new series featuring immersive stories of survival is a bit of a no-brainer.
In each episode you’ll hear well crafted stories of someone who survived an accident or an unexpected event, featuring excerpts of interviews from the person involved. There’s everything from paragliding events gone wrong, to grizzly bear attacks in the middle of nowhere. And yes, expect there to be stories that will no doubt make you think twice before setting out on a solo adventure in the middle of nowhere. New episodes are out on Thursdays.

How do you make a successful business from online platforms such as TikTok? And what tools do you need to get a big break in your career? Patricia Bright’s informative and insightful careers podcast has returned with new episodes in the past few weeks, with a well-curated selection of guests telling their own stories.
Unlike a lot of careers podcasts out there, this one does not fall into the trap of reeling out nonsensical inspirational quotes, but rather provides practical steps, motivation and anecdotes that will be useful for anyone trying to break through in their own way. Recent guests include the spoken word artist Simplysayo and Kloss Films founder Alec Maxwell.

Living with Ovarian Cancer |
One of the greatest things about podcasts is how they connect people who are going through a shared experience. This series by Diane Evans-Woods connects people who are currently living with ovarian cancer, through interviews and anecdotes shared in each episode.
“I’m one of many women who are living with ovarian cancer,” says Evans-Woods. “I want to give women like me a voice … we will cover a whole range of aspects relating to diagnosis, treatment and recurrence and just about everything in between.” There’s honest conversations, which will be of comfort to any listener connected to it.
