Hello!
Welcome to Great British Podcasts, hope you're having a great Sunday!
Big news in podcasting land. Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw are reuniting for a new BBC Sounds podcast, which will be debuting next month.
Sidetracked with Annie and Nick will look at the latest developments of the music scene and pop culture, with space for the conversation to breathe should something else interesting come up (hence the title ‘Sidetracked.’)
There’s a five minute teaser episode giving a flavour of how it will sound, and so far it provides welcome nostalgia for those who listened to Radio 1 during the early 2010s. It basically sounds like what you used to hear on the station between the music. And whilst Annie and Nick have both spawned successful podcasts by themselves (with Dish and Changes respectively), it is such a joy to have them together front and centre back on the Beeb. The podcast will be out from Thursday 28th September.
Elsewhere in podcasting … Room for Improvement, a podcast collaboration between Your Home and HomeStyle, is solving listeners’ interior design questions from lighting woes to wall painting queries. Listen to the show or ask them a question, by emailing podcast@yourhomestyle.uk.

What we've been listening to this week: |
If you have a podcast recommendation that you think everyone should know about, or you want to suggest your own podcast, all you need to do is fill in the forms on our website. |
You know that an election season is just around the corner when Sir John Curtice starts making appearances on news programmes. He’s an oracle not only on the latest polling data, but also the issues that are shaping such polling.
He’s now fronting a new podcast (music to political geeks ears!) alongside Rachel Wolf, who runs a policy consultancy in Westminster. In each episode they both explore the latest trends (hence the name of the podcast) but aim to take a longer view, explaining the long-term trends that show how the country is changing. The first episode taps into this, with reflections on the British Social Attitudes survey by NatCen, a report considered to be “public opinion version of the census.”

A new series of the British Podcast Awards nominated series that explores the topic of mums who are navigating their way to work, with a mixture of advice and anecdotes. The podcast strives against perfectionism and unattainable lifestyles, with host Laura Broderick telling listeners “it is not about being the best leader, or having the best work-life balance. It is about doing the best we can and perhaps collectively, asking the best from those around us.”
The first episode of the new series features an interview with Lauren Tedstone and Vicki Reid, who you might recognise in The Great British Sewing Bee. They talk about career changes as a parent and bonds that parents who have children can have. |

British Scandal: Liz Truss |
Yes, it actually happened. The 49 day premiership of Liz Truss. The “I am a fighter and not a quitter” / “I am resigning” speeches being a day apart. And the lettuce that was given a celebratory party hat.
Matt Forde and Alice Levine’s popular storytelling podcast has now launched a four part series looking back at Britain’s shortest serving Prime Minister. Yes…four! Despite the short length of her term there’s enough material. There’s also a special additional episode, available in advance to Wondery+ subscribers, with reflections on the Liz Truss from Alistair Campbell and the “very right wing” Joe Lycett.
