In August of 2022, we noticed that a 7-year-old girl was spending her days at the clinic instead of attending school. After speaking with her mother, we discovered that she couldn't afford to send her daughter to school. Determined to make a change, we reached out to the school directors, the mayor, and community leaders. It took a lot of effort, but eventually, Cleibely had her first day of school. The other children welcomed her warmly, and her mother was thrilled. Cleibely now has a sponsor who covers her educational expenses, and she dreams of becoming a doctor one day. This was just the first step!

Around the same time, God put it on our friend John’s heart to ask us how he could get involved in our ministry and help women in need earn money. He felt God could use him to provide them with an opportunity to learn a trade so they could become self-sufficient. We started talking to the women in Chuatzunuj to identify a trade they could learn to support their families.
Our friend Sharron Schafer was already working with a group of women in a sewing machine program called Threads of Redemption. We approached Sharron about the possibility of teaching women in Chuatzunuj. She was enthusiastic about the idea and agreed to teach them how to use sewing machines to make a living. |

John was excited to buy six sewing machines to kick the program off. As word spread, another generous lady donated a sewing machine. In the end, we started the first class with a total of 10 brand new sewing machines donated by different individuals.
In Proverbs, God tells us to put our trust fully in Him before embarking on any endeavor. We followed this guidance and trusted in God's provision. He provided us with 10 sewing machines and a willing teacher to help us with the project. It was clear that we needed to move forward with His plan. |
Working with the town leaders, the mayor, and the Java Sweater ladies, we identified 10 women who were in the most need. Our first class took place on a Saturday in August, just a few weeks after John had approached us! All 10 women attended and worked diligently. They continue to meet every Saturday to this day to further their skills. |
This program has been a blessing for these women, providing them with the opportunity to learn a trade and financially support their families.
