I have a stunning piece to share with you above by Janet Tinsley from Washington State in the US.

We just love the colours and the textures. I asked Janet to write a little about herself and she wrote back:

"My journey into embroidery started with Girl Scouts.  I learned basic stitches and loved it!  As a teenager, my artist Grandpa taught me to paint landscapes, and I found I loved that too!  Years later, when I was in my twenties, I went into an embroidery shop, and there on display was a Brazilian embroidery piece of an albino peacock.  It absolutely took my breath away.  I immediately signed up for their classes.

After taking the classes, I found that while I loved Brazilian embroidery, the technique tends to be more about showing the richness of the threads and stitches rather than creating a scene.  I really wanted to create landscapes and scenes.  So, I continued to pursue how to go about creating scenes with hand embroidery.

Then I discovered Di Van Niekerk’s books.  The silk ribbon flowers, stumpwork pieces, and hand embroidery were wonderful techniques.  They added more depth and richness to a piece, and some of her books had those techniques in a landscape setting.  I loved it!  That was years ago, and even now I continue to refer to her books for inspiration and ideas.  They never fail to get the creative juices flowing!  These days, I incorporate all that I have learned.  I use Brazilian embroidery, crewel embroidery, silk ribbon embroidery, stumpwork, and hand-painted backgrounds on my pieces to create unique landscapes.  If you would like to see more of my work, please come see my Instagram account @janettinsleydesigns."

Thank you Janet for sharing your lovely work with us!❤️
