As we begin to enjoy the warmer weather in South Africa we are thinking of our friends that are heading into their Winter time. The best-selling book The Art of felting & silk ribbon embroideryis the perfect addition to keep you inspired during the cooler months.

This unique book brings the textile and embroidery worlds together by combining the two mediums. Working in close association with felt specialist Toody Cassidy, and featuring art by felt designer Razaan Jakoet, I produced a book that will delight and inspire beginners keen to work with the striking fusion of felt and silk.

The book introduces readers to 16 stunning projects, from pieces to hang in your home through to accessories you can wear and keep, to practise and apply your newfound embroidery skills.

On my website we have limited edition embroidery kits for two of the projects in the book:

If you buy both kits you will receive the book ‘The Art of felting & silk ribbon embroidery’ for FREE. This offer is valid ONLY while stocks last.

A Place to Share

Use this hashtag to share your embroidery work. Others will be able to view it and we will be able to see your lovely pieces.

It can be anything Dicraft has inspired whether you have used my ribbons, designs, kits, books, lessons, tutorials or if we inspired any of your own pieces.

I have a stunning piece to share with you above by Janet Tinsley from Washington State in the US.

We just love the colours and the textures. I asked Janet to write a little about herself and she wrote back:

"My journey into embroidery started with Girl Scouts.  I learned basic stitches and loved it!  As a teenager, my artist Grandpa taught me to paint landscapes, and I found I loved that too!  Years later, when I was in my twenties, I went into an embroidery shop, and there on display was a Brazilian embroidery piece of an albino peacock.  It absolutely took my breath away.  I immediately signed up for their classes.

After taking the classes, I found that while I loved Brazilian embroidery, the technique tends to be more about showing the richness of the threads and stitches rather than creating a scene.  I really wanted to create landscapes and scenes.  So, I continued to pursue how to go about creating scenes with hand embroidery.

Then I discovered Di Van Niekerk’s books.  The silk ribbon flowers, stumpwork pieces, and hand embroidery were wonderful techniques.  They added more depth and richness to a piece, and some of her books had those techniques in a landscape setting.  I loved it!  That was years ago, and even now I continue to refer to her books for inspiration and ideas.  They never fail to get the creative juices flowing!  These days, I incorporate all that I have learned.  I use Brazilian embroidery, crewel embroidery, silk ribbon embroidery, stumpwork, and hand-painted backgrounds on my pieces to create unique landscapes.  If you would like to see more of my work, please come see my Instagram account @janettinsleydesigns."

Thank you Janet for sharing your lovely work with us!❤️
