From our Executive Director
As 2021 draws to a close, we are reminded of the ongoing impact COVID-19 has had on our children and families. We are grateful for the commitment of our staff as they continue to provide exceptional care during the pandemic.
We are hopeful that 2022 will see a return to more “normal” times and look forward to a National Child Care Plan that will make child care more affordable and accessible for everyone. Great things are on the horizon! — Darryl Hall
Public Health Updates
Hamilton Public Health Services has updated the direction on drop off and pick up of children in child care and before and after-school programs. You may now enter HWDSB schools to drop off and pick up your child in full day and before and after-school programs with the following practices in place:
  • Provincial COVID screening must be completed before entering the building (both parent/caregiver and child must complete) and anyone entering the child care centre must show Umbrella staff the green checkmark received through the online screening tool before entering the premises.
  • Use the one designated entrance and exit to the child care program only
  • Wear a medical mask (provided by Umbrella if you do not have one) while inside the premises
  • Use hand sanitizer upon entry and exit
  • Limit the amount of time in the building (the purpose is to drop off and pick up only) maintain physical distance at all times
Thank you for your cooperation!

Very Special Visitors
On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, Umbrella was very proud to host a visit from The Honourable Karina Gould, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, and our local Member of Parliament for Hamilton Mountain, Lisa Hepfner, at our Templemead location.

The Minister and MP toured the child care facility, spoke to our dedicated staff members, and interacted with the children in our toddler and preschool programs. The visit demonstrates their ongoing commitment to the importance of the National Child Care Program.
Umbrella Family and Child Centres of Hamilton strongly supports the proposed federal National Child Care Program. Women need child care to be able to participate in the economy. Children need quality child care services to develop their potential. The National Child Care Program promises affordable and accessible child care services, quality programming, and funding for not-for-profit organizations. Hamilton’s children, families, and economy will all benefit.
