Dear colleague,

We are excited that you have made entries for our GCSE (9-1) Computer Science Application of Computational Thinking (1CP2/02) May/June 2025 series, and wanted to let you know about the support & guidance documents that are available to you.

  • Instructions for the Conduct of the Examination (ICE, v1.9)
It is important that the team who will be supporting in delivering this exam familiarises themselves with this document as it provides the information needed to carry out the practical onscreen assessment.

  • Programming Language Subset (PLS, version 6)
There will be a hard copy of the PLS included with the question paper and a digital version will also be included within the seed files that can be downloaded on the day of the exam.
There is also a ‘Summary of Changes’ document that details changes that have taken place between the current version 6, and the previous version.

  • Frequent Asked Questions (FAQs)
We have FAQs which cover all aspects of delivering this assessment and were compiled from the experiences of centres that have previously delivered the qualification.

  • Live Support Sessions
Tim Brady, our Subject Advisor, will be hosting live support Q&A sessions, both before and after the Easter break, where he will talk through the above documentation, the importance of the preparation activities that your centre will need to undertake, as well as answering any questions you may have about the delivery of this assessment.

Centre Administration

We would really like to capture information relating to the operating system, integrated development environment (IDE) and equipment that your centre is using to deliver this assessment. This is so that we can tailor further guidance (where needed) to support the successful delivery of this qualification for your centre. Please could you ask your Head of Department for Computer Science to complete this form so we can capture this information.

Please don’t forget that should your centre need to run multiple exam sessions, you will need to submit a Centre Examination Schedule Form by 31 March.

You will also need to submit a Practical Programming Statement (PPS) Form no later than 31 May and this must be completed by the Head of Centre.

For any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us or reach out to our Subject Advisor, Tim Brady by email at TeachingComputerScience@pearson.com

Kind regards,

Julie Sinclair & Alexa Hathaway
