Upcoming specification and unit descriptors revisions
Dear Colleague,

Over the last year, we have worked closely with the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) and Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) to ensure that our current qualifications meet the necessary requirements for students completing these qualifications to gain Engineering Council EngTech accreditation.

Further to feedback from the review panel, we have made several changes to the unit structures of the Civil Engineering Higher National titles, along with the introduction of a brand-new Civil Engineering unit, which will be available in Issue 2 of the Civil Engineering for England specifications and Issue 3 of the Civil Engineering specifications for September 2025 first teach.
We are aware many current Civil Engineering students will be looking to complete their current registered qualification and progress with the JBM/ICE accreditation, so we have also created an ‘interim’ specification update (Issue 2; details agreed with JBM/ICE) for students completing their programmes this year that will allow easier progression towards professional body membership if they wish.
