Dear Friend:

Budget season is upon us, and I expect it to be a very difficult year. On Monday, the Mayor will unveil her proposed budget and hand it off to the Budget and Finance Committee for review, analysis and amendment. Serving as Vice Chair, I will engage deeply in days of public hearings with the General Manager and budget chief of nearly every City department to discuss their budgets line-by-line.

As you may know, the City of Los Angeles is facing a budget crisis with an annual budget of about $13 billion. Due to an anticipated decline in General Fund revenue, and increased costs for labor and supplies, the City must either cut spending or raise revenue to fill a nearly $1 billion shortfall.

Toward that end, I would love to get your input. Please fill out my annual budget survey by clicking here. Your responses will help me to understand the priorities of those living in the West Valley. The committee will have to make tough decisions. As always, I will fight for more resources in our community and for your priorities.

In addition to participating in my budget survey, there are two opportunities for you to provide in person public comment.
  • Friday, April 25th at 1PM at Van Nuys City Hall
  • Monday, April 28th at 4PM at City Hall
You are also able to provide written comments here for Council File 25-0600.

The Budget and Finance Committee meeting agenda and calendar can be found here and all hearings will be broadcasted live on Channel 35. If you have any questions or concerns, always feel free to reach out to me and my team at c03foryou@lacity.org.
