Dear Colleague,

We're getting in touch to let you know about an important update to the Employer Set Project (ESP) materials for the T Level in Craft and Design.
What’s changing?

In the Specimen and Additional Specimen Assessment Materials (SAMs and AdSAMs) of the Employer Set Project (ESP) for the T Level in Craft and Design, Tasks 2A and 2B and the related mark schemes refer to students using ‘design principles’ as part of the development and communication of their designs. As the term ‘design principles’ is not referred to in the Core content being assessed through the ESP, to ensure clarity for students, we will be removing the term from the specimen materials and mark schemes, and it will not appear in live assessments.

Although students are not expected to understand the term ‘design principles’ for the ESP assessment, communication of design ideas and design features are assessed, and will be referred to as ‘features’ of their designs, such as shape, form, colour, materials etc. This term is exemplified in Tasks 2A and 2B to ensure student understanding.
We’re here to help

Join us for a short webinar to walkthrough the amendments and ask any questions you might have.

The first live ESP for the summer 2025 assessment series is now available for download giving you time to prepare prior to the start of the assessment window on 7 May. You can also access the latest versions of our Administrative Support Guide for the ESP.
If you have any questions, please get in touch through the Pearson support portal, and we’ll be happy to help.
