May's Event Highlight
This month, I wanted to give a shout-out to one of our recent 200 Yard Rimfire Known Distance events. This one was in Sudlersville, Maryland on April 6th. Below are some words from the Shoot Boss, Catch-10-22:

"A great start to the 250th anniversary month celebrations with a 200-yard Rimfire Known Distance yesterday in Sudlersville on Maryland's Eastern Shore. We had a great group of shooters for this spring event and an almost equal number of instructors. The forecast called for temperatures in the 80s with an afternoon thunderstorm...and instead we had temperatures no higher than the 50s, fog and drizzle all day (with heavy rain at lunch time - thank goodness we could use the clubhouse for history).

We started out at the 50-yard line to establish our initial zero and test scope tracking with a few basic drills (vertical squares target) then did two teams for the Parker's Revenge target. While that target is meant for 25 yards, we kept it out at 50 and saw group sizes shrink - aim small, miss small! Team 1 was awarded a clear victory and received Appleseed playing cards and pins for their effort.

We then started the process of zeroing and data collection at 50-200 yards.[...]"

May's History:
The Siege of Ninety-Six, May 1781
Some stories are told more than others and it is our job at Project Appleseed to make sure all the stories from the American Revolution don't die on our watch. This month, we wanted to tell the story of The Siege of Ninety-Six, May 1781. Below is a sample of this month's exciting article from our resident historian, AH1Tom.

"Major General Green had his men throw up earthworks for his own 3-gun battery before the sun came up on May 22nd. His guns were about 130 yards from the Star Fort. Continental engineer Thaddeus Kosciuszko laid out the siege lines in the typical European pattern. Throughout this first day, the Patriot artillery fired round after round into the Star Fort.

Kosciuszko began a new parallel farther back, about 1,200 yards from the fort. On June 3rd, the second parallel was completed and the Patriots were within 180 yards from the Star Fort. Major General Greene now sent in Col. Otho Williams with a surrender proposal, but Lt. Col. Cruger refused, as expected.[...]"

One Minute to Help Preserve Our Nation
It takes just one minute to write a simple postcard, email, or letter to our representatives to make a difference in preserving our nation. Although you will likely never convince a representative who is dead set on a position, they simply need to know that folks back home are for or against an issue and are watching them. Studies have shown that with just 10-12 letters, representatives on the state level can be swayed. With as few as 50 letters, some federal representatives can be swayed. Not bad for a minute's worth of work once or twice a week. This link www.usa.gov can provide contact information for your State and Federal Representatives.

Want to Support Project Appleseed?
If you'd like to support Project Appleseed, there are plenty of ways to do so. You can buy tickets, buy store items, or make a 100% tax-deductible donation. We accept and are appreciative of all donations. Of course, the thing valued above all is TIME. Volunteers; those that can give up their time and help us out, in whatever capacity it may be, are what this program runs on.
Partnership with "Right to Bear"
Concealed carry/self-defense insurance options have grown in recent years. Appleseed has partnered with one of these groups - Right to Bear (RTB).

"When you become a Right To Bear Member, your dollars are helping to fund our God-given right to freedom. A portion of every dollar we [RTB] earn is given back to the causes that support organizations that fight for First Amendment Religious Freedom, Freedom of Speech, Second Amendment Right to Bear Arms, Sanctity of Life, and the needs of our Veterans and First Responders."

You can visit Right to Bear HERE
