The City of Edmonton will conduct at-grade crossing track rehabilitation at 111 Avenue and 106 Street during the Victoria Day long weekend. This will address aging infrastructure and improve the longevity of the City’s LRT system.
Crews will close 111 Avenue across 106 Street to vehicle traffic from 8 p.m. on Friday, May 16, to 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20. This will allow expedited rehabilitation work on the LRT track and mitigate long-term construction impacts to the public.
The shared-use path adjacent to the intersection will remain open during the road closure and flaggers will be present to assist pedestrians and cyclists through the area.
Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) Information:
Starting at 8 p.m. on May 16, the Metro Line will not be running north of Kingsway/Royal Alex LRT station as crews rebuild the track crossing at 111 Avenue and 106 Street. This will continue until the end of service on May 19.
LRT replacement bus service will run from NAIT/Blatchford Market (Stop #1227 - 106 Street & 117 Avenue NB under the NAIT pedway) and Kingsway/Royal Alex LRT stations (Stop #1109 - Bay B) every 20 minutes for the entire weekend. Capital Line and Valley Line Southeast trains will continue to run on their regular weekend schedule.
Riders are able to access the following LRT stations via the Capital Line: Churchill, Central, Bay/Enterprise Square, Corona, Government Centre, University and Health Sciences/Jubilee. Riders will also still be able to access MacEwan LRT Station using the Metro Line while work is underway.
Routes 3, 102, 111, 560 and 903 will be on detour during the work. Routes 3 (Stadium) and 111 (Riverdale) will also see a change to their bay at Kingsway Transit Centre. More information is available on the ETS Detours page.
Regular LRT maintenance and renewal projects are an important part of providing a safe, reliable and efficient service. The City appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding while this project is completed.
