Resubmission of assignments

Dear Quality Nominee

Your students deserve the best chance to succeed on their BTEC Higher National programme. If a student’s assignment does not pass after the first assessment, they must have the opportunity to resubmit the assignment for reassessment.

To help you manage this effectively, here's a quick reminder of the rules around resubmitting assignments.

Rules regarding resubmission of assignments

A student who, for the first assessment opportunity, has failed to achieve a Pass for that unit specification shall be expected to undertake a reassessment.

  • Only one opportunity for reassessment of the unit will be permitted
  • Reassessment for course work, project or portfolio-based assessments shall normally involve the reworking of the original activity
  • For examinations, reassessment shall involve completion of a new activity
  • A student who undertakes a reassessment will have their grade capped at a Pass for that unit
  • A student will not be entitled to be reassessed in any component of assessment for which a Pass grade or higher has already been awarded.

For detailed guidance on managing resubmissions, please see pages 70-72 of the BTEC Higher Nationals Centre Guide to Quality Assurance and Assessment 2024/25.

Please share this reminder with your delivery and quality assurance teams. If you have any questions or need help managing resubmissions, we’re here; contact us via the Pearson support portal.

Kind regards,

The Higher National Quality Assurance team
