May Spotlight: Taking intermittent leave? FAMLI has you covered! |
In Colorado, job protection can be a right. Thanks to clarified FAMLI rules, for those taking intermittent leave, it can begin even while your claim is active. |
Colorado’s FAMLI law says that workers have the right to get their jobs back after taking a FAMLI leave, assuming they have been with their employer for at least 180 days before their leave begins. The rule clarifies that workers using intermittent leave who haven’t been with their employer for 180 days before their first instance of leave may become job protected if they reach the 180-day mark before later instances of leave. |
If you or a loved one has irregular or uncertain health conditions that make intermittent leave types the best choice for you, FAMLI is here — to help you get the care you need, and keep your job. Find out more on our website at: www.famli.gov/rules-guidance. |

FAMLI wins national award for setting ‘a new standard’ for providers and patients |
Colorado’s FAMLI program has been named the nation’s 2025 Government Changemaker by Code for America. This prestigious award honors FAMLI for its transformative work in streamlining access to paid family and medical leave for Coloradans through its innovative user portal, My FAMLI+. |
The annual recognition celebrates individuals or organizations that use human-centered design to improve their community’s quality of life. In their award announcement, Code for America cited My FAMLI+ for “rethinking paid leave processes around user needs instead of governmental requirements,” and setting “a new standard” in public service. Code for America also cited My FAMLI+’s ease-of-use, as well as its reduction of workload for businesses. Data highlighted by Code for America included: |
- 97% of FAMLI claims are filed online, with 60% of those coming through mobile phones
- Claims take only 12 minutes to complete
- 47% of claims are decided automatically, helping workers make life plans quickly, and helping businesses continue running smoothly.

Colorado’s FAMLI: 168,000 Strong |
Congratulations, Colorado! |
Your vote for a healthy workforce through a statewide family and medical leave program has made it possible for over 168,000 Coloradans across the state to afford the time needed to care for themselves and their loved ones. That’s 168,000 lives changed for the better, in just over one year’s time. |
As of mid-month, 168,510 Colorado workers have completed FAMLI leave, benefiting from $907.93 a week on average while they recover or care for others. And residents throughout the state are accessing leave — with residents in zip codes 80634 (Greeley/Evans/Milliken), 80013 (Aurora), and 80134 (Parker/Lone Tree/Stonegate/The Pinery/Sierra Ridge) accessing FAMLI most. |
In the words of our Director, Tracy Marshall — “FAMLI establishes care as a core Colorado value;” and we’re thrilled to see you experience the return on your investment every day. |

“I needed surgery on my hip, and I was in so much pain prior to surgery that I was unable to work for a few weeks before surgery. The surgery had a very long recovery period, but I was able to come back part-time after three weeks. Knowing that my job was safe and that I was being compensated while out on my medical leave really helped my anxiety while I was recovering!” |
That’s from Paula, who took a FAMLI leave this year to recover from surgery. |
