Get ready to roll, Edmonton! The City of Edmonton is excited to announce Street Sparks, a special summer event series celebrating new and different ways to get around the city. These welcoming community events will empower Edmontonians to embrace e-rides and active transportation options.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Edmontonians to experience the benefits of micromobility in an inclusive and safe environment,” said papastew Ward Councillor Michael Janz. “The Street Sparks events will provide valuable experience and education to help residents feel confident and make informed choices about sustainable transportation options.”
Street Sparks participants will get first-hand experience with e-rides (like electric bikes and shared e-scooters) at no cost, while learning from experts from Edmonton's micromobility vendors - Bird, Lime and Neuron. A reminder that personal e-scooters and one wheel devices are illegal as per the Traffic Safety Act and cannot be used on public road right-of-way and will not be permitted at the events.
Residents can participate in a variety of activities at Street Sparks, including test rides and guided pathway tours (18 years+) and safety and maintenance workshops, along with an array of family-friendly activities, play features and food trucks. Street Sparks dates include:
Saturday, July 5
Booster Juice Recreation Centre at 2051 Leger Rd NW
11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Saturday, July 19
Mayfield Park at 10941 161 St NW
11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Events like Street Sparks are an important part of the City of Edmonton’s commitment to encouraging the adoption of affordable, accessible and sustainable mobility choices for short- and medium-distance travel. Shifting towards options like cycling and shared e-rides promotes cleaner air and reduces overall greenhouse gas emissions associated with transportation, a significant contributor to Edmonton's overall carbon footprint.
To manage capacity, online registration is required for some activities. Visit edmonton.ca/StreetSparks to get a free ticket for test rides, workshops and more.
