The City of Edmonton’s annual giveaway of horticultural compost at Ambleside and Kennedale Eco Stations will conclude early due to limited availability. Free horticultural compost will remain available for pickup until May 31, or until supplies last.
The feedstock for this compost is made up of the grass, leaf and yard waste collected on yard waste collection days and dropped off at Eco Stations and the Edmonton Waste Management Centre. Each year, the quantity of available compost varies based on several factors, including weather and feedstock supply. As a result, the quantity of compost made available at Eco Stations fluctuates on a year-to-year basis.
Should additional compost become available, the City may reopen the giveaway program later this year. The City continues to offer horticultural and agricultural compost for sale in bulk. Funds generated through the commercial sale of compost help maintain a steady waste utility rate and allow the City to offer excess compost to residents through this annual giveaway.
Thank you to the more than 11,000 Edmontonians who have collected over 1,900 tonnes of free compost this year.
