New School in Patzún
Help Us Shape a Brighter Future for Children at El Centro de Esperanza Agua de Dios
In the wake of Guatemala’s devastating 7.5-magnitude earthquake on February 4, 1976, which claimed 23,000 lives, injured 77,000, and left 1.2 million homeless, the Asociación Femenina Católica Guatemalteca Cadetes de Cristo de las Hermanas de Bethania, Consoladoras de la Virgen Dolorosa transformed a nuns’ retreat into a beacon of hope. The disaster destroyed countless homes and 40% of the nation’s hospital infrastructure, prompting the sisters to open a daycare on their property in Patzún, Chimaltenango, supporting families as parents rebuilt their lives.
In 1998, the retreat began the journey to establish a school. On July 15, 2002, El Centro de Esperanza Agua de Dios opened as a private institution serving 256 boys and girls from kindergarten to 6th grade. The school provides a nurturing environment, with many students attending on full or partial scholarships, while others come from families making significant sacrifices for a quality education surpassing public school offerings. In 2024, growing demand led to a new kindergarten section, creating an urgent need for three additional 1st-grade classrooms. Four nuns live on-site, dedicating their lives to the school’s mission of delivering comprehensive religious and academic education to empower children for a brighter future.
Guatemala’s Heart: Ludi’s Mission Story
Five years ago, during a mission trip in San Juan del Obispo, Antigua, I met Sor Glenda, a nun whose passion for education inspired me deeply. We’ve remained close friends since. Last year, after her transfer to Patzún, Sor Glenda shared an urgent need: raising $150,000 to expand El Centro de Esperanza Agua de Dios, a school transforming lives through quality education.
Our Vision for 2025
To meet the community’s growing needs, we’ve launched a three-phase expansion plan:
  • Phase 1 (2025): Raise $150,000 to build three 1st-grade classrooms on the first floor and a state-of-the-art computer lab on the second floor, equipping students with essential skills for the modern world.
  • Phase 2: Add two classrooms per grade to increase capacity.
  • Phase 3: Establish a middle and high school to provide continuous education for these deserving children.
Your support can make Phase 1 a reality. By contributing to our $150,000 goal, you’ll help create a safe, inspiring space for children to learn and thrive. Every donation brings us closer to transforming lives through education.
