Fireworks will light up Edmonton skies this Canada Day
June 23, 2025

This year’s Canada Day fireworks are set to soar over Edmonton's central River Valley parks and the North Saskatchewan River on July 1.

Fireworks Show
Time: 11 p.m.

Watch the fireworks show over the central River Valley on Tuesday, July 1. The fireworks will be livestreamed by CBC Edmonton for anyone who would like to watch from home.

Excellent viewing locations (direct sightline):
  • Queen Elizabeth Park and Hill
  • River Valley Road Shared Pathway
  • Victoria Park
  • Ezio Faraone Park (west entrance to High Level Bridge on 109 Street north)

Good viewing locations (indirect sightline):
  • Alberta Legislature Grounds
  • Walterdale Hill Road sidewalks and east Promenade
  • Government House Park
  • 109 Street (between Saskatchewan Drive and the High Level Bridge)

Note: No viewing is available from Kinsmen Park.

Pedestrian access will be unavailable in Kinsmen Park, including trail access, after road closures are in effect. Kinsmen playground, tennis courts and picnic areas are closed starting at 6 a.m. on Canada Day, July 1.

North-South Pedestrian Bridge Access:

The following pedestrian access across the North Saskatchewan River will be unavailable from 9:45 p.m. until 30 minutes after the fireworks:

  • 109 Street southbound, from 97 Avenue/ High Level Bridge to 87 Avenue
  • Menzies Bridge

Pedestrian access across the river will be available via the Groat Road Bridge, James Macdonald Bridge, Walterdale Bridge and the Low Level Bridge.

Watercraft

Watercraft may be taken out on the river to view the fireworks. A portion of the river to the north of the launch zone at Kinsmen Park (from approximately the Menzies Bridge to the Walterdale Bridge) will be blocked off to all watercraft during the fireworks. For public safety, the Public Spaces Bylaw requires life jackets to be worn at all times while in, on or holding onto anything used as water transportation on the North Saskatchewan River. Before taking watercraft out on the North Saskatchewan River, check boat launch notifications as closures may occur.

Drones

For public safety and the integrity of the fireworks display, operating drones is strictly forbidden within and around the Canada Day fireworks zones. In Edmonton, effective May 2025, the updated Public Spaces Bylaw mandates permits for all drone operations on City property. Launching or landing recreational drones is prohibited on public land; takeoffs must occur from private property with the landowner's explicit permission and in compliance with Transport Canada regulations. Additional drone regulations include permits for flights over advertised events and designated areas. Non-compliance may result in fines and equipment confiscation.

Expect traffic delays two hours before the fireworks and two hours after the show. Be patient and courteous to help make travel safe for everyone.

Be safe and remember: you must have a permit issued by the City of Edmonton to use fireworks within city limits. Always check to see if there is a fire ban in effect before use and make sure wind conditions are safe, as per permit conditions.

Under the City of Edmonton’s Public Places Bylaw 14614 and Community Standards Bylaw 14600, any use of fireworks without proper permits is illegal and subject to enforcement, which can include fines of up to $10,000.
