When people are targeted in our neighborhoods and when their constitutional rights are being violated, we have a responsibility to respond. That’s why this week, I introduced a motion with Councilmember Ysabel Jurado calling for the City Attorney to take legal action against the Trump Administration in response to numerous reports of unlawful immigration enforcement across Los Angeles.
We’ve heard deeply troubling accounts from Angelenos. People have been stopped in public spaces like schools, courthouses, and workplaces by masked and heavily armed individuals claiming to be federal agents and demanding identification. Some agents wore no identification. Others presented blank or unsigned warrants. Many appeared to be targeting residents based on race or ethnicity. These actions are clearly illegal. They create fear and instability for families and disrupt daily life in places that should feel safe. Families are sacred, and so is the rule of law. These actions violate both.
That’s why we’re calling for immediate legal action, including injunctive relief, to stop these practices and hold those responsible accountable. While that process moves forward, our office is also organizing a Know Your Rights workshop and will be sharing additional resources to support impacted communities in the coming days.
If you or someone you know has been affected, please reach out to us at Councilmember.Yaroslavsky@lacity.org. Whether you need legal help, want to report an incident, or just aren’t sure where to turn, our team is here to support you.
We firmly denounce the discriminatory and unconstitutional tactics taking place in our neighborhoods. We stand by the vast majority of Angelenos who are demonstrating peacefully. And we will continue doing everything in our power to defend the dignity, safety, and rights of every person who calls this city home.
Los Angeles will not be intimidated. We will not be silenced. We will protect our communities and hold those who cross the line accountable.
All my best,
Katy

All Neighborhood Council Budget Day Event
Yesterday morning, I joined Mayor Bass, Council President Harris-Dawson, local leaders, and Angelenos at City Hall for Budget Day 2025, an annual event hosted by LA’s 99 Neighborhood Councils. With the city facing a historic deficit, potential layoffs, and cuts to essential services, including Neighborhood Council funding, this year’s event was a critical call to action. I joined my colleagues in urging residents to stay engaged, demand transparency, and advocate for equitable budgeting that reflects community needs. |

Paws in the Park
On Sunday, my team and I co-hosted Paws in the Park with the Westside Neighborhood Council and local partners. The event connected residents with resources to help keep their pets healthy and at home, with the goal of preventing pet surrenders and easing overcrowding in our city’s animal shelters. We know that caring for our city’s animals and preventing pet surrenders requires both community support and city services. That’s why I worked to restore funding for the Department of Animal Services in this year’s budget. This funding helps ensure that every shelter remains open and staffed, while also supporting the programs that help families care for their animals before they reach a crisis point. |
Midvale Volunteer Day
This week, members of my team joined our partners at Whittier First Day and neighborhood residents for a volunteer day at the new Midvale interim housing site, which is set to open in just a few weeks! Our team spent the day setting up the space for its first residents. That included cleaning, organizing, and preparing the site to make sure it feels safe and welcoming from the start. The project will soon provide 33 new shelter units for individuals experiencing homelessness in our district, and we are looking forward to working with the community to make sure it is a success. |
