Edmontonians can once again apply for the City of Edmonton’s successful Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP), which offers accessible financing to help with energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades to homes.
"We are incredibly pleased to support Edmontonians in their journey to make their properties more energy efficient and climate resilient through the Clean Energy Improvement Program," said Kent Snyder, Branch Manager, Planning and Environment Services. "The program is a vital tool in our city's journey towards net-zero emissions, empowering property owners to invest in renewable energy solutions. The success stories we're seeing demonstrate a clear path towards a more climate resilient Edmonton."
The program has already helped numerous Edmontonians reduce their environmental footprint, lower bills and enhance the value of their properties. Participants can finance up to 100 per cent of eligible upgrades using the CEIP’s innovative financial model where repayment is made via property taxes. This structure ensures that the costs are tied to the property, not the individual, making it a flexible option even if the property were to change ownership.
The CEIP supports a wide range of improvements, including the installation of solar panels, enhanced insulation, high-efficiency windows and doors, and upgrades to heating and cooling systems. These initiatives reduce greenhouse gas emissions and can lead to savings on energy bills.
Since its launch, the CEIP has gained significant traction, with more than a hundred residential and commercial property owners participating.
Gordon Howell, an Edmonton resident, used the CEIP to upgrade his residential home. "The Clean Energy Improvement Program made it feasible for me to install a solar-electric system and improve my home's energy-efficient ventilation," said Howell. "As expected I've seen a huge reduction in my electricity bills even though my consumption increased by changing from a natural gas to a new electric water heater. It’s satisfying knowing I’m contributing to cleaner air and a cleaner electricity grid. The process was straightforward, and the repayment through property taxes made it incredibly manageable."
The CEIP not only helps individual property owners but also stimulates the local green economy by creating jobs for contractors and energy professionals.
