Edmonton exceeding housing supply targets |
July 21, 2025
At the halfway point of its Housing Accelerator Fund agreement with the federal government, the City of Edmonton is meeting and exceeding expectations for growing housing supply.
The City’s Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) agreement with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) is contingent on achieving an overall housing supply target by November 2026. As of June 30 - a little over 50 per cent of the way through the agreement - the City is 75 per cent of the way to that target.
“Homebuilding in Edmonton is on track, not just to hit our numbers, but to help the city maintain its affordability while providing housing options for everyone,” said Christel Kjenner, Director, Housing Action Team. “All Edmontonians should be able to find the housing they need in our city, whether they’re renting an apartment, buying their first home, downsizing or in need of non-market affordable housing. That’s what we’re working toward.”
The City was initially allocated $175 million to complete 11 initiatives designed to increase overall housing supply and encourage the development of housing that the market may not provide on its own. CMHC announced earlier this year that Edmonton was one of 27 “top-performing” communities to receive additional HAF funds. The City will now receive an additional $17 million for an additional 500 units, bringing the total allocation to $192 million.
