On Sunday, August 17, thousands of local, national and international marathon runners will take to city streets for the 2025 Servus Edmonton Marathon. This premier event celebrates its 34th year winding through a number of historic neighbourhoods and past Edmonton’s scenic River Valley. A qualifier for the 2026 Boston Marathon, this race also proudly hosts the Athletics Canada National Half Marathon Championships alongside the Canadian Masters Half Marathon Championships.
The Servus Edmonton Marathon features a flat, fast course that offers participants a unique connection to the community, with support from over 400 volunteers and cheers from more than 15,000 spectators. The finish line, located in front of the Edmonton Convention Centre, will be alive with energy as fans line Jasper Avenue. This exciting course provides the perfect opportunity for athletes to achieve their personal best while enjoying the spirit and enthusiasm of Edmonton.
Road closures and traffic delays
The race route starts and finishes at the Edmonton Convention Centre, located at 9797 Jasper Avenue. The following road closures will be in effect:
- Total closure of Jasper Avenue, between 95 Street and 124 Street
- A single lane will be maintained on Jasper Avenue Eastbound, between 124 Street and 119 Street to allow for local access; two way traffic on 100 Avenue will be in place to accommodate impacted residents.
- No north/south crossing of Jasper Avenue anticipated between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.
- Single lane traffic in each direction on Jasper Avenue, between 82 Street and 95 Street.
- Single lane traffic in each direction on 82 Street between Jasper Ave and 112 Avenue.
- Total closure of 124 Street between Jasper Avenue and 102 Avenue.
- Single lane traffic in each direction on 102 Avenue between 124 Street and 138 Street.
- Access to streets on the south side of 102 Avenue will be permitted as space between race participants allows.
Downtown access
Impacts to downtown Edmonton will begin at 6:45 a.m. and end by 4 p.m. Expect major traffic delays during these times, especially in and out of downtown. Please plan ahead.
Neighbourhood access
Many areas of the race route will allow local access only, meaning residents will be able to access and leave their homes. Please plan ahead and expect delays.
Impacts to downtown neighbourhoods east of the Edmonton Convention Centre will start at 6:45 a.m. and end at approximately 10:30 a.m., when roads will reopen. Impacts to downtown neighbourhoods west of the Edmonton Convention Centre will start at 7:15 a.m. and end by approximately 4 p.m.
Residential streets in the neighbourhoods of McCauley, Cromdale, Virginia Park, Bellevue, Highlands, Beverly Heights, Rundle Heights, Glenora, Crestwood and Parkview will be impacted. Residents are asked not to park on the route and to follow directions from race course marshals.
Parking
Parking restrictions on the event route will be in effect.
Access to a number of parking facilities will be impacted from Saturday, August 16 at 6 a.m. to Sunday, August 17 at 4 p.m. Parking facilities impacted include:
- Canada Place East and West Parkades
- Stanley A. Milner Library Parkade
- Sun Life Parkade
- KRP Tower
- Diamond and Impark lots on 99 Street, south of Jasper Avenue
- Fairmont Hotel Macdonald
- DoubleTree by Hilton hotel
- Surface lots along 101A Avenue, between 96 and 97 Street
Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) impacts
With no north/south traffic at 109 Street and 116 Street along Jasper Avenue, a number of ETS routes will be detoured and some bus stops will be closed during the event. Routes impacted include:
- Between 5 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.: Route 101
- Between 5 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.: Routes 1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 110X, 511, 701, 900X and 90
Please be advised that Routes 2, 5, 111 and 900X will have additional detours to accommodate setup and teardown for the marathon. The detours will run from 5 a.m. on August 16 to 5 a.m. on August 17 for setup, then run again from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on August 17 for teardown.
Plan ahead and leave extra travel time for your trip. ETS recommends riders use the Capital Line, Metro Line, or Valley Line Southeast LRT to travel to and through downtown. Riders can find the full list of detours at edmonton.ca/busdetours.
