September 2025 Vol 2
Combatting Transit Crime We announced the indictments of two individuals for separate attacks against women within the subway system. “These horrifying acts of violence significantly injured two women, including one who needed life-saving surgery. Safety in our subways is paramount, and we will hold accountable those who bring weapons into our transit system and harm New Yorkers,” said D.A. Bragg.
We announced the indictment of a man for allegedly stabbing a 56-year-old man onboard a subway car at the West 145th Street and Broadway station in West Harlem. “The transit system is the lifeblood of the City, and we take acts of violence committed underground very seriously. Thankfully the victim received treatment for his significant injuries, and I hope he makes a full recovery,” said D.A. Bragg.
Taking a Comprehensive Approach to Gun Violence Read D.A. Bragg’s op-ed in Amsterdam News on how targeted, strategic planning and community investments helped drive down gun violence in Harlem this summer. “Although the data is continuing to trend in the right direction, we know there is more work to do. We will continue to use every tool at our disposal to drive down these numbers further and deliver safe communities everywhere in Manhattan,” said D.A. Bragg.

Our Worker Protection Unit hopes to use New York’s criminal antitrust laws to go after companies that collude and harm their employees through wage-fixing and no-poach agreements. Read more in the New York Law Journal.
Standing Against Hate Crimes Manuel Morales was sentenced to 2-to-4 years in state prison for threatening a 37-year-old Asian man with a pair of scissors, after making anti-Asian remarks, in Chinatown. “In Manhattan, everyone should feel that they belong, and I hope the imposed sentence offers the victim a sense of justice,” said D.A. Bragg.

Cracking Down on Financial Fraud We announced the sentencing of Alexis De La Cruz to 1-to-3 years in state prison for stealing and forging checks from older adults. “I hope today’s sentencing sends a message that we will prosecute those who steal hard-earned money from Manhattanites of any age,” said D.A. Bragg.
We also announced the indictment of Benedetto Cupo, the owner of several concrete construction firms, for multiple alleged frauds including the theft of more than $1.6 million in COVID-related loans and $3 million of his employees’ wages. “This case exemplifies the work that my office’s Rackets Bureau does each and everyday: protect New Yorkers’ wages and New York’s public fisc by uncovering corruption and fraud,” said D.A. Bragg.

Elhadji Sene was indicted for allegedly using stolen credit cards to make thousands of dollars of unauthorized purchases on two victims’ accounts. “This is merely the latest indictment Sene faces for repeatedly stealing New Yorkers’ identities and hard-earned money. This is an ongoing investigation. Please call us at 212-335-8900 if you may be a victim,” said D.A. Bragg.
Prosecuting Violent Crime Wagner Louis was indicted for allegedly slashing a café employee in Midtown. “This broad daylight attack is horrifying, and I hope the victim continues to heal from this assault. We do not tolerate threats to the safety of workers in Manhattan and will prosecute those who cause hard-working New Yorkers harm,” said D.A. Bragg.
We announced the indictment of a man for two alleged violent attacks against three NYPD officers in the same day. “We do not have tolerance for those who attack members of law enforcement, and I hope the injured officers can make full recoveries,” said D.A. Bragg.
We also announced the indictment of Desean Maryat for allegedly placing an imitation pipe bomb in front of the NYPD substation at Times Square. “He specifically chose to target the door of the NYPD’s Times Square substation, grinding officers’ movements to a halt. Thankfully, the NYPD’s Bomb Squad responded and moved efficiently to ensure everyone’s safety and allow visitors and commuters alike to return to Times Square,” said D.A. Bragg.
