Impacts of postal service strike on City of Edmonton services
September 26, 2025

Some City services could be impacted during the Canada Post strike. Information on alternatives for impacted services and online options is detailed below.

Edmontonians who pay the City for facility rentals, uninsured damages to City property, rent and leases, and more can continue paying online, through their bank, by phone or in person at the Edmonton Service Centre, as applicable.

For City of Edmonton bylaw tickets (e.g. parking tickets), pay online or in person at the Edmonton Service Centre.

For provincial violation tickets, pay online at Alberta Fine Payments.

The City of Edmonton will not mail out red light enforcement tickets during a Canada Post service disruption. All red light tickets will be issued once mail service resumes. Payment deadlines and court dates will be adjusted based on the date the ticket is issued and not the date the infraction occurred. All other bylaw tickets will continue to be issued, including parking tickets.

Pet licence renewal notices will not be sent by mail during the service disruption. Pet owners are still required to keep pet licences up to date. You can renew or purchase a pet licence online or in person at the Animal Care and Control Centre.

Development permit notifications for permitted developments and discretionary developments (those requiring notification of property owners in the neighbourhood) will not be sent in the mail. The list of applications requiring notification will be posted online to Public Notices on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Edmontonians applying for the Leisure Access Program, which provides access to recreation facilities and attractions at a lower cost, or the Ride Transit Program, which provides discounted access to ETS, are encouraged to check the status of their applications online

Neighbourhood Renewal updates will continue to be shared on project webpages. Alternate notification methods, such as neighbourhood signage, will be used as appropriate.

Lost or damaged Residential Parking Program permits can be requested online, but will not be mailed out. Applicants can request that permits be available for pick-up at the mail counter at the Edmonton Service Centre and will be notified when permits are available.

Submit a claim against the City online or call 311 for assistance. Claim payments may be delayed due to a postal service disruption.

Serving the City with legal documents
If you need to serve the City with a legal document, contact
Legal Services at legalservicesreception@edmonton.ca or 780-496-7200.

Vehicle for Hire notices will not be sent by mail. Customers can contact businesslicenceapplications@edmonton.ca to request a notice to pay by email. Approved Vehicle for Hire Driver renewals can use their file copy that will be emailed to them and keep it with them until the physical licence can be mailed to them.

Approved business licence certificates and renewal notices will not be sent by mail. If you have consented to receive documents by email, renewal notices and a file copy of the licence certificate will be sent electronically. The file copy can be printed and posted at your business until mail service resumes and you receive a physical certificate. To provide or update your email address, contact businesslicenceapplications@edmonton.ca or call 311.

The Edmonton Service Centre, located on the second floor of Edmonton Tower (10111 104 Ave.), is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Book an in-person appointment online to pay for select City services.

During a Canada Post service disruption, there may be longer than usual wait times at the Edmonton Service Centre due to increased in-person needs. Edmontonians are encouraged to pay online if at all possible, or to use the drop box – located at the Mail and Lost and Found counter – to drop off forms and payment by cheque.

Edmonton Elections
Voters who apply for special ballots will receive their packages. We are working with alternative service providers to send out special ballot packages in the coming days. If you are able, you can select or switch your
return method to ‘pick up’ and we will notify you when it is ready.

For candidates, local political parties, slates and third-party advertisers, please submit financial disclosures in person or by email at elections@edmonton.ca or via courier.

The City is committed to staying connected to Edmontonians, as well as connecting Edmontonians to their community and what matters most to them. It continues to monitor the situation and take steps to maintain business continuity.
