Seeking Accountability for Sexual Violence We announced the indictment of Dr. Maurizio Miglietta, a professor of surgery at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in his apartment after displaying a firearm. “As alleged, this prominent doctor used his position to lure a woman to his apartment under the guise of professional networking and mentorship. Instead, he allegedly displayed a firearm that he said was loaded, and sexually assaulted her as she repeatedly said no,” said D.A. Bragg.
Ellow Williams was sentenced to 18 years in state prison for following a woman to her SoHo apartment building before strangling her and raping her. “Every woman deserves to be safe while walking through the streets of Manhattan, and my office will continue to create accountability for violent offenders who jeopardize that,” said D.A. Bragg.
We announced the indictment of a man for allegedly attempting to rape a 34-year-old woman inside a Midtown nail salon. “This alleged conduct is absolutely abhorrent, and I hope the survivor is able to recovery both physically and emotionally,” said D.A. Bragg.

Jermaine Gabadian was convicted at trial for repeatedly sexually and physically assaulting his 36-year-old then-girlfriend over the course of two months. “While the brutal violence Gabadian exhibited is distinctive, his use of coercion and control to prevent the survivor from leaving is all-too common. This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we are reiterating that crimes committed against a partner are just as serious as crimes committed against a stranger.” said D.A. Bragg.

Bragg.

Protecting Manhattan Tenants We announced the indictment of three individuals and three companies for allegedly working together to steal a Harlem brownstone in a deed fraud scheme. “During a time when housing is scarce, I will not stand for fraudsters coming to Harlem to try and perpetrate these pernicious schemes. This type of alleged conduct preys on longtime New Yorkers, and we will prosecute those who take advantage of homeowners,” said D.A. Bragg.

Taking a Comprehensive Approach to Combating Gun Violence D.A. Bragg was appointed the new Co-Chair of Prosecutors Against Violence, an independent and bipartisan group of 50 prosecutors from across the country working to end gun violence. “We must take a comprehensive, nationwide approach through collaboration, investments and advocacy and I look forward to continuing this work with prosecutors across the country as Co-Chair of PAGV,” said D.A. Bragg.
Avery Dunning was sentenced to a total of 25 years in state prison for shooting a 41-year-old woman, who was his neighbor, after she and her husband confronted Dunning about allegedly committing acts of domestic violence against his girlfriend in East Harlem. “My thoughts remain with the victim and her family as they continue to recover from the reeling effects of this horrific act of gun violence,” said D.A. Bragg.
So far this year in Manhattan, murders are down 48% and shootings are down 66% compared to 2021. There is still more work to do, but we are continuing to reduce gun violence and keep our borough safe.
Two men were indicted for allegedly killing 32-year-old Hamid Thomas and injuring an innocent bystander during a Harlem shooting. “As alleged, Barshon Jamison and James Lattimore killed a man in a brazen act of gun violence in the middle of a crowded, public NYCHA development courtyard,” said D.A. Bragg.
We joined Everytown for Gun Safety for their 3D-Printed Firearms Summit, as they brought together leaders across law enforcement, academia, and the 3D-printing industry to collaborate on strategies to reduce 3D-printed firearm-related violence. “If we were just prosecuting gun possessions rather than thinking about how to prevent these guns from getting printed and proactively talking to these companies, then we would be sorely behind the curve,” said D.A. Bragg. Read more about our work to combat 3D-printed guns in the Associated Press.

Bragg.

I wish the victim a full recovery as she continues to heal from this horrific attack,” said D.A. Bragg.
