FAMLI Matters the newsletter for FAMLI claimants
October 21, 2025
This is an official communication from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment’s Family & Medical Leave Insurance Division.

FAMLI Voices

“My work is extremely physical, and I would be unable to do it because of the requirements of the job. So being able to stay home and focus on healing my body has been such a blessing. Thank you, Colorado! FAMLI leave has helped me and my family stay afloat when we otherwise would not have been able to.”
That’s from Heather, who took FAMLI leave to recover from back surgery. She’s just one of 158,105 Colorado workers who have applied for FAMLI coverage to care for their own serious health conditions since benefits became available in 2024.
As an overwhelming majority of U.S. workers worry that an unexpected medical event would derail their financial goals, FAMLI means Coloradans’ can worry a little less. We’re keeping your paycheck protected so people like Heather can focus on what matters most.
We want to hear how FAMLI coverage has affected you, too. Submit your story today!

What’s Next For FAMLI: Two Important Updates

We’re preparing two big enhancements to help Colorado families care for their health and for one another, without worrying about making ends meet.
Neonatal Care Leave (NCL)
In December 2025, Colorado will become the first state in the country to offer paid leave to parents with infants receiving intensive care — meaning even more Coloradans won’t have to choose between a paycheck and being present when it matters most.
Federal Withholding Options for Medical Claims
If you work for a business with 10 or more employees, your portion of Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) taxes will be automatically deducted from your FAMLI medical leave claims — saving you the headache of tax paperwork!
Our goal is simple: no surprises and easy access to what matters most. We’re building new FAQs, guides, and website resources so you’ll have clear information when these updates go live.

Building a Better FAMLI Experience

We’re working to make FAMLI as simple as possible. This month we’re excited to share the latest upgrades that make sure FAMLI remains the supportive, accessible service you deserve.
Accessibility Gold Standard
Your My FAMLI+ Portal now meets the latest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2) — the international standard for digital accessibility. These standards make sure every Coloradan can access paid leave with confidence, independence, and ease.
That means the portal is built so everyone can use it easily, including people who rely on assistive technologies like screen readers, voice navigation, or keyboard controls.
Reporting Leave Hours Made Easy
If you’re approved for reduced or intermittent leave, your eligibility notice will include clear Instructions to Report Leave Hours.
These step-by-step directions make it easy to know when and how to report your time away, helping you avoid confusion and keep your payments on track.
Correspondence Update | Missing Documents
We’ve updated language to our “Documents Missing” message - making it easier for you to know what we need from you and how to get it to us so your claim can proceed on-time.
Look for more enhancements next month!

No Clinic Nearby? No Problem! Telehealth + FAMLI Have You Covered

More than 1 in 10 Coloradans live in rural areas. That’s more than 700,000 people who often have to travel longer distances just to receive basic care.
That’s why FAMLI recognizes telehealth just like an in-person visit. Whether you meet with your doctor online or in the office, your time away from work to care for yourself or a loved one can still be covered through a Serious Health Condition form.
