Dear Friend:
The holidays are around the corner and I hope you can attend my annual holiday party and toy/essentials collection drive happening on Thursday, December 4th from 4-7pm. This year we will be having the party at my District Office in Reseda. It’s always a fun time and a great way to connect or re-connect with friends and neighbors. |
|
Like in years past, we will be collecting toys, nonperishable dry and canned goods, hygiene products, and more to be distributed among community members in need. Your non-perishable dry or canned goods will go directly to food insecure families thanks to our amazing local partner food banks- West Valley Food Pantry, the Canoga Park Senior Citizen Center, and ONEgeneration Senior Enrichment Center. New socks and gently used jackets and blankets will benefit our unsheltered neighbors. And, of course, the toys will be distributed to children who might otherwise go without during the holidays. The toys will be sorted and distributed appropriately based on age and need to non-profits such as the Guadalupe Center, Kids Cancer Connection, West Valley YMCA and NEW Economics for Women that have organized toy giveaways. While the drive does not take cash or credit cards, if you'd like to donate to one of these partner organizations directly, please visit their website linked above.
As the federal government shutdown continues and disrupts critical nutrition funding, your donations make a difference more than ever. Below you will find a list of food resources in the West San Fernando Valley. |
|
To help us with logistics and food preparation, please RSVP and I look forward to seeing you this holiday season. |

San Fernando Valley Veteran’s Day Parade this Tuesday |
|
You are invited to the San Fernando Valley Veteran’s Day Parade this Tuesday, November 11th at 11AM. It begins on the corner of Laurel Canyon and San Fernando Mission Boulevards and proceeds south on Laurel Canyon Boulevard, and ends at the Ritchie Valens Recreation Center. Bring your family, your friends, and your gratitude as they salute the brave men and women who have served our country. Enjoy marching bands, classic cars, community groups, and special tributes to our veterans.
Councilmember Blumenfield helped start this parade over 20 years ago. As a founding member of the parade committee, Blumenfield is proud that this wonderful tradition continues and that we are able to show appreciation for the men and women who fight to keep us safe and preserve our freedoms. He believes honoring Veterans like his father who served during the Vietnam era is extremely important.
This continues to be the only Veterans Day Parade in the entire City of Los Angeles and more information can be found here. It only happens because a committed group of volunteers who form the parade committee, led by Fred Flores with whom Blumenfield worked when they worked for former Congressmember Howard Berman, make it happen. While the parade serves the entire City, it takes place in Councilwoman Rodriguez’s district and Blumenfield is grateful to her for hosting it and navigating the City’s involvement. |

Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Dia de los Muertos Family Festival |
Councilmember Blumenfield was proud to honor Main Street Canoga Park for celebrating 25 years of the Annual Día de los Muertos Festival in Canoga Park! Blumenfield thanked Aida Lacio, Jaclyn Bernstein, Mary Paterson, and the incredible team of volunteers who’ve worked tirelessly to bring this beloved community event to life year after year. Blumenfield also recognized some of the founders, Laura Gutierrez and Arely Esqueda, who helped launch the very first festival 25 years ago. |
What began in a parking lot twenty-five years ago has grown into a vibrant festival that brings together people from across the Valley and greater Los Angeles. Each year, the community gathers to honor the lives and memories of loved ones through a day filled with live music, delicious food, a classic car show, and family-friendly activities that capture the heart of this cultural celebration. This year was no exception and was a joyous and well attended event. |

Charter Commission Coming to the Pierce College this Wednesday |
|
How many City Councilmembers should Los Angeles have? Should the City try ranked choice voting like other cities have done? Are changes needed to our civil service rules? What is the appropriate process to remove and replace a Councilmember who has been indicted or accused of wrongdoing? What are the roles and responsibilities of certain commissions or the neighborhood councils? All these things are defined in the City Charter. As you may know, a Charter Reform Commission has been meeting to review and discuss potential changes to the LA City Charter, with a goal to present amendments to the voters in November 2026. The Commission’s Government Structure Committee will meet in the West Valley on Wednesday, November 12th at 2pm at Pierce College, 600 Building, 6201 Winnetka Ave in Woodland Hills.
This month, the Commission will be diving deeper into how to improve LA City government and will be discussing ways to improve hiring processes. It’s important for the Commissioners to hear from people and stakeholders throughout the City so make your voice heard by attending the meeting and participating in a survey here. |

You Can Help Shape LA’s Transportation Future |
|
The City of Los Angeles is developing its first Mobility Action Plan (MAP), which will guide how LA invests in streets, sidewalks, transit, biking, and walking. The MAP will produce two transportation investment plans to help the City prioritize projects and coordinate resources: a five-year plan with funded projects to begin in 2028, and a 20-year plan that will identify long-range capital needs. Ensure that the San Fernando Valley gets its fair share by participating in the survey here.
In addition, help shape how we walk, bike and get around the Warner Center area. The Warner Center Active Transportation Hub project supports the transformation of the Warner Center area into a hub for jobs and housing. After months of listening to your needs, reviewing community assets, and trying out ideas, your feedback is needed for draft concepts. Attend the Community Meeting on Tuesday, December 2nd at 6PM at LAFD Station 84 Community Room. More info can be found here. |

Supporting Seniors at Los Angeles Jewish Health |
Councilmember Bob Blumenfield recently joined the senior advocacy group ‘We the Seniors’, led by Jerry Davis, along with dozens of residents from Los Angeles Jewish Health (LAJH), for a town hall event focused on rising antisemitism and issues affecting aging Angelenos.
Formerly known as the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging, LAJH is a nonprofit that has served local seniors for more than a century, offering a wide range of services including long-term care, residential living, and specialized health care. Recently, LAJH received a $28 million grant to expand access to care for seniors with acute psychiatric needs. Blumenfield thanked LAJH President and CEO Dale Surowitz and Joyce Eisenberg Keefer Medical Center CEO/Administrator Ilana Springer for their leadership and dedication to ensuring that seniors in our community can live and age with dignity. |

Councilmember Blumenfield welcomed Australian Consul-General Tanya Bennett to City Hall to explore collaborative opportunities between Australia and Los Angeles in anticipation of the World Cup and the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
|
Councilmember Blumenfield recognized local veterans at the annual Canoga Park Women's Club Veterans Day Luncheon. |
In recognition of the 50th Anniversary of the Friends of the Woodland Hills Library, Councilmember Blumenfield presented a City proclmation to Mary C. Schaffer, President of the Friends of the Woodland Hills Library, in recognition of their decades of service to the community. |
Councilmembers Blumenfield and Hernandez joined LA Foward to discuss the Unarmed Model of Crisis Response (UMCR) and how to achieve 100% citywide UMCR coverage. UMCR continues to positively impact communities in the City of Los Angeles by deploying trained behavioral health teams to 911 calls for service. This continues to be a win-win as people in crises get an appropriate response and our first responders are freed up to focus on emergencies and fighting crime in our neighborhoods. |
Councilmember Blumenfield was excited to celebrate the Dodgers championship with his son, Obi. What a season, capped off with one of the greatest post seasons ever. Congrats to our back-to-back World Series champion Dodgers! |
