Edmonton Urban Design Awards honour city’s top architecture and design
November 21, 2025

The City of Edmonton celebrated the best of urban design at the Edmonton Urban Design Awards gala on November 20. In all, 23 projects were honoured in nine categories, including a People’s Choice Award winner selected by Edmonton voters.

The award winners vary from open spaces, streetscapes and heritage projects to future plans and housing opportunities.

“The Edmonton Urban Design Awards showcase the best of Edmonton’s design community,” said Mayor Andrew Knack. “Artists, architects, landscape architects, planners and students are accomplishing remarkable things, and these awards highlight not only their talents, but their understanding of how to make architecture and public spaces inviting for Edmontonians.”

Urban design and architectural excellence play a critical role in enhancing the quality of life in cities like Edmonton. They give our city presence and a unique vision of what our city is and what it can become.

“These awards not only celebrate the spectacular achievements of our design community, but also reinforce Edmonton’s commitment to building a vibrant, livable city where urban design excellence is a fundamental part of our future,” said Kim Petrin, Deputy City Manager for Urban Planning and Economy. “The City of Edmonton is proud to host Edmonton Urban Design Awards.”

The 20th anniversary of the Edmonton Urban Design Awards featured 51 submissions. The winners were chosen by an international jury from Canada and the United States. The jury had the option of choosing multiple winners in a category.

Winners in five of the categories are eligible to be submitted for honours from the National Urban Design Awards hosted by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the Canadian Institute of Planners, as well as recognition from the National Trust.

The Edmonton Urban Design Awards were created in 2005 to recognize individuals, organizations, firms and projects that have contributed to urban design and the city’s quality of life. The awards are held every two years.
