Gluten-free prescriptions – changes coming |
More than 1,400 people answered a survey about getting gluten-free food on prescription. The NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB) thought about stopping these prescriptions. This was because gluten free food is now easier to buy in shops.
After reading what people said in the survey, the ICB agreed to adjust the plan. The changes start on 1 March 2026.
Adults aged 25 and over will not get NHS prescriptions for gluten-free flour and bread. But if you're under 25 you can still get these
items on prescription.
The ICB hopes this will help children and young people get used to a gluten-free diet. It will also help to use NHS resources fairly. |

All behaviour happens for a reason |
People with a learning disability, autistic people and families told us that services need to learn reasons behind different behaviour.
A new campaign, All Behaviour Happens for a Reason, will now help spread the word.
Launched by the Learning Disability and Autism Network, the campaign will help staff learn reasons for behaviour that may challenge a service. By doing this, they can think of ways to meet people's needs.
Things to think about are:
- Pain
- Attention
- Sensory
- Escape or avoidance
- To get something
This message can apply to all us. |

- Sickness to prevention: What makes it hard for young people to get care? Do they feel listened to?
- Hospital to community: What is it like for young people to get care in the community?

South Tyneside: Cervical screening self-sampling |
Cervical screening is a test to check the health of the cervix and help prevent cervical cancer. (This used to be called a smear test).
A new scheme for 2026 will offer women who have rarely or never attended their cervical screening a self-sample kit. These means they can do the screening sample at home.
South Tyneside Health Collaboration would like to hear what you think about self-sampling. Please fill in or share our survey.

You can also use Tell Us What You Think (see below).

Your voice matters. Share your views directly with the people who plan and pay for health and care services - the Integrated Care Board (ICB). Tell Us What You Think about:
