I hope you had a meaningful Thanksgiving and were able to spend the long weekend with people you love. I spent the past few days with my family, and have been reflecting on the scope of the work in front of us and the many residents who rely on the City to get it right. The challenges are significant, and the needs across our district are real. What keeps this work moving is the way people show up for their neighbors and stay engaged even when the issues are tough. I feel grateful for that steady involvement because it anchors this work and makes progress possible.
I saw that same commitment last week at the Hollywood Food Coalition’s Annual Thanksgiving Dinner at Television City, where volunteers served more than 500 meals. Hollywood Food Coalition rescues surplus food from businesses across Los Angeles and shares it with more than 160 nonprofits that provide meals and supplies to people who need them. It fills a critical gap for residents who depend on regular access to meals and essential items. |
The end of the year is in sight, and there’s a lot on the Council’s agenda before the holidays. There are two more full weeks of City Council meetings, including a special Budget and Finance Committee meeting where we will hear the latest on the City’s financial status. I’ll share updates as we get closer to each vote. I’m grateful for the trust you place in me, and I’m committed to carrying that trust into every decision we make.
All my best,
Katy |

Inaugural Budget and Finance Advisory Committee Meeting
Last week marked the first meeting of the Budget and Finance Advisory Committee (BFAC), a group I created to bring independent expertise into the City’s budget decisions. When we faced a significant fiscal shortfall earlier this year, it became clear the City needed a long-term approach that looks beyond year-to-year fixes. The committee’s role is to help us strengthen financial stability, improve revenue performance, and make better use of City assets.
At the first meeting, members elected former City Controller Ron Galperin as Chair and Jessica Lall as Vice Chair. They also received an overview of the City’s fiscal outlook from the City Administrative Officer and Chief Legislative Analyst. The committee includes leaders with experience in municipal finance, economic and real estate development, investment strategy, as well as public-private partnerships. Their recommendations will come to the Budget and Finance Committee for consideration and will help guide future budget work.

One LA-IAF procession in Support of the Congressional Investigation on ICE Raids
On Monday morning, members of my team joined the Mayor, the LA Civil Rights Department, and clergy from across the city in a procession organized by One LA-IAF. The group walked from Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church to a field hearing hosted by House Democrats, led by Congressman Robert Garcia and joined by Mayor Bass. The purpose was to gather testimony about civil rights violations tied to recent ICE raids, including reports of U.S. citizens and immigrants being detained by masked federal agents without judicial warrants or probable cause. |

Caltrans announces extended weekend lane reductions along Interstate 405 (I-405) through the Sepulveda Pass. Last week, our office worked with the Los Angeles Wilshire Division and LASAN to clear trash and debris from an encampment located at Drexel Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard. Outreach teams were on site beforehand to offer services and housing referrals to anyone who needed support. MyLA311: A Helpful Tool for City Services
With the end of the year approaching and service needs often increasing, this is a good time to share a quick reminder about MyLA311. MyLA311 is often the fastest way to report issues like graffiti, illegal dumping, streetlight outages, missed trash collection, bulky-item pickup, and other common neighborhood concerns. You can submit a request through the MyLA311 app, the website, or by calling 311. The service connects residents to more than 1,500 types of City services, from sanitation and street maintenance to animal services and parking issues.
After you submit a request, you will receive an email confirmation with a service request number. If you forward that confirmation to my office at councilwoman.yaroslavsky@lacity.org, our team can track the request on our end and follow up with the relevant department.
MyLA311 handles most general issues, but some services go directly to specific departments. The City's “Who to Call” guide lists numbers for things like LADWP outages, building and safety permits, public health, social services, parking enforcement, and other specialized needs. We encourage you to bookmark it, print it out, or keep it handy for quick reference.
If you ever have trouble with a request or aren't sure where it should go, my team is always here to help. |
