Beginning this year, natural Christmas tree disposal is changing in Edmonton. While trees are no longer being picked up from the curb, once holiday celebrations have wrapped up, residents can use several convenient tree disposal options at no charge.
Residents can drop-off trees at:
This service change enables the City to redirect funding to more efficient uses, helping to keep utility rates low and stable. Last year, approximately 6,400 residents - or 2.5 per cent of households - set out trees for collection after the holidays. Despite this relatively small number, this service required collection trucks to drive past all 280,000 households with curbside collection to ensure no trees were missed, increasing labour and fuel costs.
Before dropping off your tree, please ensure all ornaments, decorations and lights are removed. Residents can also donate artificial trees and decor in good condition to the Reuse Centre and bring any broken or non-working lights or electronics to an Eco Station for safe disposal.
