Councilmember Blumenfield joined Councilwoman Traci Park and Councilmembers Heather Hutt and Tim McOsker to survey the severe damage left by the Palisades Fire. The scale of destruction was overwhelming, but it was matched by the strength and dedication of the first responders who traveled from across Los Angeles and from departments nationwide to help contain the blaze and protect our communities. In the face of immense loss, Angelenos have stepped up for one another, offering support, comfort, and solidarity as families and neighborhoods begin the long process of recovery. |

Councilmember Blumenfield highlighted the Kroenke Organization’s newly announced plans for “Rams Village at Warner Center,” a 52-acre mixed-use development that will serve as the Los Angeles Rams’ permanent headquarters and training facility while bringing new housing, retail, office space, entertainment venues, and over nine acres of open and community space to the West Valley. Designed by Gensler, the project will follow the Warner Center 2035 Plan, comply with state and local housing laws, and uphold previously promised conditions, including reserving units for low-income, workforce, and local worker housing; any major changes would require a new public process. Blumenfield emphasized the project’s potential to boost economic activity, expand public space, and strengthen community identity as the Rams make the Valley their permanent home. |

Whether you’re calling 9-1-1 or the non-emergency line, PSRs are always there to answer your call, provide assistance, and relay critical information to public safety officers in the field. PSRs are unsung heroes, and we thank them for their unwavering dedication to serving our community. |

Councilmembers Blumenfield and Hernandez, Co-Chairs of the Ad Hoc Committee on Unarmed Crisis Prevention, Intervention and Community Services, honored Unarmed Model of Crisis Response (UMCR) Teams for their one year of service to help Angelenos in need. UMCR continues to positively impact communities in the City of Los Angeles by deploying trained behavioral health teams to 911 calls for service. UMCR teams have responded to over 8,000 calls for service and provide support to Angelenos in crisis without the presence of armed law enforcement officers. This continues to be a win-win as people in crises get an appropriate response and our police officers are freed up to focus on fighting crime in our neighborhoods. |

|
May is Jewish American Heritage Month, and this year, Councilmember Blumenfield and his colleagues honored Jewish composers who shaped Hollywood. Many were Holocaust survivors or descendants who fled Nazi persecution, yet persevered and created iconic music. Legendary composers like George and Ira Gershwin, Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, and Irving Berlin transformed adversity into art. Jewish creativity and tradition have long been a source of resilience and survival. Blumenfield is proud to be Jewish and to come from a long line of people who, in the face of danger and hate, refuse to be quiet and sing instead. |

Councilmember Blumenfield’s partnership with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC) continued to deliver results for the West Valley. Young Corpsmembers work hard each day to keep our communities clean. A few years ago, Blumenfield provided office space for the LACC within his district office building, and he regularly allocates district specific funds to LACC to specifically address needs in the local communities and he's always grateful to see their continued progress. He views this local team as a potent local clean-up strike force to help remove weeds, trash and other nuisances. As always, if you see bulky items, excess trash, graffiti, etc, call 818.774.4330 or email c03.foryou@lacity.org and we'll send a team out. |

To help address the increasing extreme heat due to climate change, Councilmembers Bob Blumenfield, Eunisses Hernandez and Adrin Nazarian introduced a motion to ensure renters are protected from the deadly impacts of extreme heat. For decades it has been required that landlords provide heat in apartments to protect tenants from freezing temperatures, this motion recognizes that protecting people from extreme heat is equally important. Their proposal directs the City to adopt, and conform to LA County’s newly passed ordinance establishing a maximum indoor temperature standard of 82 degrees Fahrenheit for rental housing. Remedies are not prescribed, but may include installation of air conditioners, curtains, fans, or other cooling equipment. |

The City Council unanimously approved the confirmation of Jaime Moore as the new Chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Councilmember Blumenfield joined Angelenos at the annual San Fernando Valley Veterans Day Parade — the only Veterans Day Parade in the entire City of Los Angeles. As a founder of this parade 23 years ago when he worked for Congressman Howard L. Berman and as a member of the original parade committee, Blumenfield never misses attending this parade (except once because of COVID). It has become a wonderful tradition and an important way to show appreciation for the men and women who fight to keep us safe and preserve our freedoms. There was a major funding hiccup this year caused by the City’s push to recoup its street closure costs that that almost derailed the parade, but thanks to quick action by Councilwoman Rodriguez whose district the parade route travels and additional investment by Blumenfield and other Councilmembers, the parade was put back on track. |
