End of life survey
Talking about death is not always easy. But it's important to hear people's views to shape care. We want to understand how people feel about palliative and end of life care in the North East and North Cumbria.

Palliative care helps people feel as comfortable as possible, when their illness cannot be cured.

End of life care is a type of palliative care. This is given when a person is approaching the final stages of life.

Please fill in this short survey and share it with others. The survey closes on 8 February.

If you have queries, please email nencicb.involve@nhs.net

You could answer the survey below, before the end of February.  Or you could talk to jo@togetherwe.uk

At the end of the survey there are details about support that you can get.

Cancer Patients Experience Survey Results
This yearly survey asks patients about their cancer care. It asks people what happened from diagnosis to treatment. In the North East and North Cumbria patients said:
  • they were mostly positive about their care.
  • they got strong support from care teams,
  • and communication was clear and treatment was respectful.
The Northern Cancer Alliance will use the feedback to make care better. For example, focus on support at home. And on understanding the side effects.

Using eye images to prevent disease in people living with diabetes
More people are getting diabetes. We want to help people with diabetes stay healthy. We want to spot any health problems early. You can help by taking part in research.

The research looks at images taken during diabetic eye checks. The people doing the study will use this information to look closely at the blood vessels in the back of the eye. Helping them to spot the risk of other diseases.

If you would like to take part, email

Help to shape autistic eye research
Many autistic people are sensitive to light and patterns. This is called visual sensitivity. People studying this want to know why this happens.

People doing the study would like to hear from autistic adults. You do not need a formal autism diagnosis. It does not matter if you are sensitive to light and patterns or not. You can still help.

Your help can make sure they ask the right questions.

Support for stroke survivors
After a stroke it is important to look after your bones. Strong bones help you stay healthy. And help lower risks of breaking a bone if you fall.

People doing a study want to hear from stroke survivors and family carers. You must be aged over 18. You can help to create a new phone app. The app aims to reduce falls and broken bones after stroke.

North Cumbria: maternity survey results
New mums have reported good inpatient maternity care. This was about the care staff at North Cumbria Integrated Care gave them.

Young people take on vaping
Vaping can feel normal for some teens, but stopping can be hard. A group of young people have made a video to share their real stories about vaping.

There are no lectures - just honesty. With funding from Key+ and support from NE Youth, they’re making posters and self-help packs. These are to help others quit or cut down on vaping. The video and packs also help staff and parents understand what's going on.

Voice of lived experience in practice
Working closely with patients and carers is really important at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust. Patients and carers help to shape many parts of their services. This includes how care is given.

A team of patients have been working with staff who look after the buildings. Helping them know what matters most to the people using them.

Patient assessors have;
  • talked with hospitality staff
  • checked signs and cleaning,
  • looked at the food menu and
  • helped with hiring new staff.
If you are a patient or carer of TEWV services you can get involved too.
