The pool, running and cycling track together make Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre the first indoor triathlon training centre in North America.
“This is not just a facility — it is a destination, a community connector and a place where many amazing memories have been made, and will continue to be made, " said Mayor Andrew Knack. “Beyond supporting community wellbeing, this project also serves as vital social infrastructure and a hub for economic development through its diverse services and resources. I look forward to the opening, and I am confident this facility will be beloved by residents, visitors and athletes.”

Originally opened in 1970 as Coronation Pool, Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre closed in March 2020 due to COVID-19 public health restrictions. The City began rehabilitation work in fall 2021 to bring the facility up to current building codes and Alberta Health Pool Standards while integrating City of Edmonton accessibility and sustainability policies. The work was completed in late 2025, and the facility has reopened as the Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre within the Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre.
The City of Edmonton now operates a total of 20 recreation and leisure centres. These facilities support the City’s goals of creating positive opportunities, promoting health and well-being, fostering inclusion, and building strong communities. |
