Citywide Phase 1 Parking Ban takes effect February 18 at 7 a.m. |
February 17, 2026
Due to the significant snowfall forecast this week, the City of Edmonton has declared a citywide Major Roadway (Phase 1) Parking Ban for arterial roads, collector roads, bus routes and roads within business improvement areas starting Wednesday, February 18 at 7 a.m. A Parking Ban allows the City’s fleet of plows and contracted graders to quickly and efficiently address conditions across the Priority 1 inventory.
“A Phase 1 Parking Ban is required to maintain safe roadways given the current snow accumulation and the additional expected snowfall. Edmontonians can help by removing parked vehicles from these routes so that our plows and graders can safely and effectively clear them. Our crews are working around the clock on these roadways, and we expect the Parking Ban to remain in effect for approximately three to five days,” said Val Dacyk, General Supervisor of Infrastructure Field Operations, City Operations.
During the Phase 1 (major roadway) Parking Ban, parking is prohibited on arterial roads, collector roads, bus routes and roads within business improvement areas at all hours until the clearing is complete. EPark zones are not active during Phase 1 of the Parking Ban, including roadways marked with white “Seasonal No Parking” signs. |

Operational approach
In addition to the Phase 1 Parking Ban, 24-hour operations are in effect across roadways and active pathways, and the City has accelerated standard response timelines by over 24 hours. Given the significant snowfall over a short period, contracted graders are being deployed before snowfall ends, rather than waiting for accumulation to stop. This earlier deployment is intended to expedite clearing and reduce impacts on mobility. The City will continue to manage operations based on weather conditions.
Roadways
Crews are actively plowing Priority 1 routes, including arterial roads, transit routes, bridges and emergency access corridors. Priority 2 and 3 routes will follow. Residential roadways will be assessed once the primary network is stabilized. If conditions require it, a residential clearing plan will be shared later this week.
Active pathways
Priority 1 active pathways, including the winter bike network, business improvement area sidewalks and key shared-use paths, are being cleared, with contracted crews supporting work on high-priority civic walkways.
Enforcement
Vehicles parked on Phase 1 Parking Ban roadways may be ticketed $250. These roadways include downtown hills, arterial roads, collector roads and bus routes.
Where to park
Residents may continue to park on residential streets.
Edmontonians are reminded that parking is permitted on roads once snow removal is complete, provided parking is normally allowed. Residents can check the Roadways Snow Clearing Map for current roadway clearing status or subscribe to receive direct email or text notifications for up to five locations.
Sidewalk snow clearing
Residents are reminded to keep their communities safe by removing snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their private property after a snowfall. A clear sidewalk reduces the risk of slips, falls and injuries, especially for senior neighbours, children and those with mobility challenges.
If you are unable to clear ice from the sidewalk adjacent to your property right away, temporarily apply sand or gravel until the ice can be chipped and removed. Free sand is available at community sandboxes located across the city. Failure to clear sidewalks may result in a $100 fine, plus any remedial cleanup costs incurred by the City, as outlined in Bylaw 14600. If a sidewalk remains uncleared and poses a safety risk, submit a report to 311 for enforcement and follow-up.
Parking Ban completion
A separate announcement will be issued when the Major Roadway (Phase 1) Parking Ban concludes. If the City determines that a Residential (Phase 2) Parking Ban is required for residential and industrial roadways, an additional announcement will be made.
Motorists are reminded to drive to road conditions and maintain a safe following distance. Please give snow and ice clearing crews space as they work to clear the roads.
