The City of Edmonton is set to enhance the vibrancy of the beloved Happy Beer Street area with the creation of a new Entertainment District along 78 Avenue. This initiative will transform the street during designated, organized community events, featuring live music and extended patios and allowing visitors to enjoy a beer or cocktail while strolling through the area.
“Our Entertainment Districts have proven to be amazing catalysts for cultural vibrancy and economic activity, and 78 Avenue feels like the perfect place to add some more energy to our city,” said Alisa Laliberte, Branch Manager, Economic Investment Services. “These districts are an easy way for the City to support our local businesses, while creating opportunities for greater community connection.”
The new Entertainment District is located on 78 Avenue between 99 Street and 100 Street. During designated events, 78 Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic, creating a pedestrian-friendly environment. Food and alcohol from participating businesses, such as Shiddy’s Distilling and Rumpus Room, Blind Enthusiasm Brewing Company, Bent Stick Brewing and Yeasty Boys Brewing, can be purchased and consumed within the District’s boundaries.
“We’re exceptionally excited to have the opportunity to build the future of 78 Avenue as one of Edmonton’s official Entertainment Districts,” said Greg Zeschuk, owner of Blind Enthusiasm Brewing Company. “All of our small businesses on the street will be working together to build community and provide an environment for people to gather and have fun together.”
The local business community is launching a new year-round programming initiative called Seventy Gr8 Ave, beginning with a market in May. More than a dozen events are planned throughout 2026.
