March 18, 2026
Starting March 31, Coronation Eco Station will be closed to enable on-site work for the Coronation Eco Station Expansion Project, which represents the first significant upgrades to this Eco Station since it opened in 2000.
The project involves the following:
- Restructuring traffic flow and site layout to improve safety and efficiency for residents and employees while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from vehicle idling.
- Rehabilitating and expanding the existing Eco Station building, including mechanical, electrical and structural upgrades.
- Repurposing two existing garages to improve waste sorting.
- Increasing the number of waste drop-off bins to improve service for residents.
- Installing solar photovoltaic and energy-efficient systems to reduce greenhouse gas emissions along with water and energy consumption.
- Converting the decommissioned rail line at 143 Street, between 111 Avenue and 115 Avenue, into an access lane for drop-off bin service trucks.
These upgrades will improve customer experience, accommodate current and future service demand and ensure the facility meets modern building codes as well as City of Edmonton operational and sustainability policies. The Eco Station is expected to reopen to residents in spring 2027.
During the closure, residents can drop off their waste at other Eco Station facilities located throughout the city.
Eco Stations
Eco Stations are convenient waste drop-off sites for batteries, electronics, household hazardous waste and more. During the closure, Edmontonians can drop off waste at other Eco Stations located throughout the city:
- Ambleside (14710 Ellerslie Road SW)
- Kennedale (5355 127 Ave. NW)
- Strathcona (5150 99 St. NW)
Please note, Eco Stations shift to summer operating hours on March 31 and will remain open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until November.
Recycling depots
Residents can find a nearby recycling depot by visiting edmonton.ca/RecyclingDepots. Items that can be dropped off at a recycling depot include paper, flattened cardboard boxes, plastic containers, cans, bottles and cartons.
Batteries and e-waste
In addition to Eco Stations, batteries, electronics and other e-waste can be dropped off at participating retailers. Batteries, regardless of size, should never be placed in the garbage. When disposed of incorrectly, they can cause fires at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre. For more information, visit edmonton.ca/Batteries.
