Zeroing in on Public Corruption Together with the Department of Investigation, we announced the indictment of a former supervisor at the New York City Department of Buildings for allegedly accepting more than $75,000 worth of bribes from three construction-industry company owners. “DOB plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of the more than 1 million buildings and construction sites in New York City. Together with our partners at the Department of Investigation, we root out fraud that undermines this mission and rewards bad actors,” said D.A. Bragg.
Prosecuting Transit Crime We announced the murder indictment of Bairon Hernandez for allegedly shoving two individuals without provocation into the tracks at an Upper East Side subway station, killing 83-year-old Richard Williams. “I hope the survivor continues to heal from this abhorrent assault, and my thoughts are with the loved ones of Mr. Williams who are mourning his tragic loss. Those who use violence in our bustling transit system will be prosecuted,” said D.A. Bragg.
Combatting Gun Violence “We’ve moved from the iron pipeline to the kitchen table pipeline,” said D.A. Bragg. With Governor Hochul and our fellow district attorneys, we continue to push for legislation to combat the spread of 3D-printed firearms as ghost guns spread across the five boroughs.
Together with NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch we announced the indictment of seven individuals allegedly of the Up The Hill crew, located on the Lower East Side, for allegedly conspiring to possess firearms and murder rivals. “As we further allege, the defendants used social media to provoke rivals, glorify gun violence and escalate tensions, fueling a dangerous cycle of retaliation. We are committed to disrupting these senseless cycles to protect our communities, and thanks to our coordination with the NYPD and other law enforcement partners, these individuals are now facing accountability,” said D.A. Bragg.
Securing Justice at Trial We announced the all-count trial conviction of Jermaine Longmire for attempting to rape a woman in Central Park. “New Yorkers and tourists alike deserve to enjoy New York’s parks without fearing for their safety. I thank the survivor for courageously recounting the assault and our skilled prosecutors for securing an all-count conviction in this case,” said D.A. Bragg.
Jermaine Gabadian was sentenced to 30 years-to-life in prison following his trial conviction for repeatedly sexually and physically assaulting his then-girlfriend. “This extremely violent and coercive cycle of abuse underscores why intimate partner violence remains a severely underreported crime,” said D.A. Bragg. “We urge anyone suffering abuse at the hands of a partner to call our Special Victims Division at 212-335-9373.”
We also announced the sentencing of Cecil McKenzie to an aggregate of 7 years-to-life in prison following his trial conviction for serial subway sex abuse. “A jury found McKenzie has repeatedly harmed women on the subway, and he will now serve a significant prison sentence. I thank my office’s prosecutors for ensuring accountability in this case,” said D.A. Bragg.

Anthony Rosa was convicted at trial for recklessly causing the death of his two-year-old son Charlie, who died of acute intoxication from the combined effects of cocaine and fentanyl. “The single day Rosa and Charlie were alone – while Rosa’s wife gave birth to the brother Charlie will never meet – Charlie ingested enough fentanyl to kill an adult. I thank my office’s Child Abuse Bureau for expertly trying this case,” said D.A. Bragg.
Cracking Down on Fraud We announced the indictment of Mohamed Orabi for allegedly stealing more than $50,000 from mobile food vendors by falsely claiming that he could lease them New York City issued permits. “This is an ongoing investigation - if you have been scammed, please call our office’s Immigration Affairs Unit hotline at 212-335-3600 or via WhatsApp at 347-371-0877,” said D.A. Bragg.
We announced the guilty plea of Alan Burak for operating an investment fraud scheme that recruited dozens of people to invest with his fraudulent firm and stealing over $4 million of their investments for his personal use. “Alan Burak now faces significant prison time for his elaborate, fraudulent scheme. He defrauded twelve individuals out of millions of dollars, including loved ones who trusted him for financial advice,” said D.A. Bragg.

Even small pieces of personal information can be exploited by scammers to target New Yorkers. D.A. Bragg joined the AARP for their free Big Shred Event as we encouraged New Yorkers to prevent fraud by shredding their sensitive documents.
Connecting With Our Community D.A. Bragg joined Council Member Gale Brewer’s Upper West Side Town Hall as he discussed our offices’ work to drive down serious crime, crackdown on retail theft, and more.
