Rehabilitation work on 112 Avenue Bridge starts week of April 20 |
April 17, 2026
Starting the week of April 20, the City of Edmonton will begin rehabilitation work on the 112 Avenue Bridge over Wayne Gretzky Drive.
This project addresses deteriorating bridge elements and includes the addition of a new shared pathway on the north side. The rehabilitation will extend the bridge’s service life by approximately 20 years and support safe, reliable travel for all users.
112 Avenue remains open for east-west travel. Traffic on the 112 Avenue bridge will be reduced to one through-lane and one turning lane in each direction. Construction will pause through the winter to maintain traffic flow and accessibility. Construction is expected to take place throughout 2026 and 2027.
Traffic and access impacts
- During each phase, traffic will be shifted to one side of the bridge while rehabilitation work is underway on the other. Lane configurations may change as work progresses.
- Temporary lane closures on Wayne Gretzky Drive will be required to safely accommodate construction activities. These closures will be short-term and scheduled outside of peak travel hours to minimize disruption. Please watch for posted signage on Wayne Getzky Drive.
- Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained on the north side of the bridge, with signage and temporary detours in place as required.
The City recognizes the impacts of construction activities on traffic and accessibility, and thanks the public for their patience during this process. Updates, including advance notice of major traffic changes, will be provided throughout the project on the project web page and the City’s Traffic Disruptions Map. |
