Dear Valued Customer,
Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD), your drinking water provider, will be conducting upcoming work in your neighborhood as part of the Florence Lane Pump Station Upgrades Project.
What’s Happening This Week
During the week of April 27 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., crews will be working on SW Florence Lane, east of SW Fir Lane Terrace, to perform surveying and potholing. This work supports the design of future improvements planned for this area.
What is Surveying and Potholing?
Surveying involves taking precise measurements of the roadway, surrounding features, and elevation to map existing conditions and determine the best placement for new infrastructure.
Potholing involves creating carefully dug holes to visually confirm the exact location and depth of underground utilities such as water lines, sewer lines, gas lines, and communication cables. This helps prevent conflicts and ensures safe construction.
Surveyors will be working in the public right-of-way (ROW) - the area along the street where water pipes, hydrants, and other utilities are located. In your neighborhood, this includes roadside or grassy areas, as there are no sidewalks.
While in the ROW, surveyors will:
- Identify existing water infrastructure and plan future improvements.
- Place temporary markings, including flags, stakes, spray paint, or other markers, to indicate locations.
No action is needed from you at this time. Crews will not enter private property, and there will be no permanent impact to your yard, driveway, or home.
About the Planned Valve Installation
This work will help finalize the design for a new underground water valve and vault planned beneath a section of SW Florence Lane. Installation is currently anticipated for fall/winter 2026.
The new valve will act as a control point in the water system, allowing TVWD to regulate water flow, isolate sections of pipe during maintenance or emergencies, and improve overall system reliability.
What to Expect
Crews working in the roadway and nearby areas
- Small equipment and utility vehicles
- Temporary, minor disruptions such as noise or dust
- No water service shutoffs are scheduled during surveying, potholing, or the future valve installation
- Surveying and potholing work will have minimal traffic impacts
- Future vault installation (fall/winter 2026) is expected to impact traffic in the area; more details will be shared closer to construction
Project Status
In addition to this work, TVWD is upgrading equipment inside the Florence Lane Pump Station, including pumps, motors, transformers, and the generator, and installing a new emergency generator outside the building.
While most of the project takes place inside the pump station, the valve and vault installation will occur in the public right-of-way. This portion of the project is currently in the design phase, and the field work happening now will help determine final design and placement.
