Free Big Bin Events and Eco Station Weekends are back |
May 1, 2026
Throughout the spring and summer, the City of Edmonton is once again hosting Big Bin Events and Free Eco Station Weekends, giving residents an opportunity to drop off furniture, appliances and other household items that are too large or bulky for regular collection.
Eco Stations and Big Bin Events provide residents with more options to properly sort and dispose of their waste, helping the City divert more waste from landfill as we move towards a zero-waste future. Residents can drop off items and materials that are excluded from regular garbage and recycling collection for safety and environmental reasons. This includes items like electronics, tires and mattresses, which can then be sent for recycling. By sorting waste correctly, residents help ensure items don’t unnecessarily enter the landfill.
These events also help reduce illegal dumping by allowing residents to dispose of these items conveniently and free of charge.
Residents are asked to plan for lineups, as these waste drop-off events generate significant interest. To avoid unnecessary waits, residents can review items that are always accepted free of charge at Eco Stations.
Residents are required to unload their own vehicles at these events and are encouraged to bring assistance if needed. When transporting large items, ensure loads are safely secured. For safety reasons, these events are intended for vehicle access only and are not designed for pedestrians.
Before bringing an item to an Eco Station or Big Bin Event, the City encourages residents to consider whether it can be reused. Reusing items helps conserve energy and resources, prevents usable items from going to landfill, and supports businesses and non-profits by keeping resources in our community. The Reuse Centre accepts a variety of everyday items and makes them available for reuse, and the Reuse Directory provides a list of places that accepts donations.
