Dear Valued Customer,
From Monday, May 11, through Thursday, May 14, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day, Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD) will close SW Butner Road to through traffic between SW Downing Street and SW Murray Boulevard.
The roadway will reopen daily at 5 p.m. and remain open to all traffic overnight until 8 a.m. the following morning.
This closure is necessary to safely disconnect a water main beneath SW Butner Road from the water system, and to permanently pave the roadway where it was previously excavated. Work will occur west of the SW Butner Road and SW Murray Boulevard intersection.
Work is weather dependent and subject to change.
Traffic Impacts and Detours
Detour signage will be posted throughout the area.
- Northbound/Southbound SW Murray Boulevard: No impacts expected.
- Westbound SW Butner Road: Drivers will detour north or south onto SW Murray Boulevard at the Murray Boulevard intersection.
- Eastbound SW Downing Street: Drivers will detour south onto SW Meadow Drive to SW Walker Road.
- Local Access: Local motorists will be allowed on SW Butner Road between SW Downing Street and SW Murray Boulevard.
Pedestrians and Cyclists
- Pedestrians may encounter brief sidewalk detours near the work area. Every effort will be made to keep at least one side of the sidewalk on SW Butner Rd. open to minimize out-of-direction travel.
- Cyclists should follow vehicle detours or use alternate routes.
Emergency Vehicles
- Emergency vehicle access will be maintained but may be limited during paving.
Public Transit
- No impacts are expected to public transit are expected.
Project Background
- Replacing approximately 845 feet of existing 6-inch cast iron water main with a new 8-inch ductile iron water main under SW Murray Blvd. Frontage Rd., from SW Butner Rd. south to the Willowbrook Condominium Association (14095 SW Walker Rd.)
- Installing a new fire hydrant near 735 SW Murray Blvd.
- Relocating an existing fire hydrant near 835 SW Murray Blvd.
Construction on the overall project began in early March 2026. The project is scheduled for completion during the week of May 18, following permanent paving of excavated areas on SW Butner Road and SW Murray Boulevard Frontage Road.
Safety Reminders
Motorists are advised to:
- Reduce speeds in the work zone
- Obey all posted signage and flaggers
- Watch for construction workers and equipment
- Allow extra travel time
- Use alternate routes when possible (see detour map below)
