Driving Down Crime In the first four months of this year, murders in New York City were at their lowest levels in recorded history. Listen to D.A. Bragg and Brian Lehrer discuss our office’s work driving down violent crime, cracking down on scams targeting immigrant New Yorkers, and vacating an unjust murder conviction.
Securing Justice for Transit Crime We announced the sentencing of Kamal Semrade to 20 years in state prison for pushing a woman into a departing train at the Lexington Avenue and 63rd Street station. “After the attack, Semrade callously fled, leaving the victim helpless on the platform. While nothing can undo the profound harm caused, I hope this sentence brings a measure of justice as the victim continues her recovery and works to rebuild her life,” said D.A. Bragg.
Tackling Wage Theft We announced the indictment of two individuals for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars in wages from their employees at La Macarena Restaurant & Sport Bar. “Manhattanites deserve to be paid for their work, and my Office will ensure accountability for bosses who take advantage of their employees,” said D.A. Bragg.
Ensuring Accountability After Trial Anthony Rosa was sentenced to 7 ½-to-15 years in state prison following his trial conviction for recklessly causing the death of his two-year-old son Charlie. “Not only did Anthony Rosa ignore repeated warnings of the dangers associated with fentanyl use around children, he harassed concerned ACS workers and fought against their protocols and precautions every step of the way,” said D.A. Bragg.
Jermaine Longmire was sentenced to 13 years in state prison for attempting to rape a woman in Central Park. “I want to thank the survivor for bravely testifying in this trial. I hope this sentencing can offer a sense of closure as she continues to heal from this traumatic assault,” said D.A. Bragg.
D.A. Bragg met with the 2026 David Rockefeller Fellows, leaders who will help shape the future of New York City, to share our public safety work.
Hannah Yu, our Hate Crimes Unit Chief, gave a presentation to students at the Guttman Community College on how our office prosecutes and investigates hate crimes!
Celebrating our Community Partners D.A. Bragg stopped by the JCRC-NY anniversary gala as the organization celebrated 50 years of service to New York’s Jewish community
“The Navigators who are out there day after day building relationships, strengthening our neighborhoods are a critical piece of our public safety puzzle,” said D.A. Bragg, who was proud to be honored at The Bridge’s annual gala as we celebrated our partnership.
D.A. Bragg and members of our office joined Safe Horizon’s 30th annual gala to celebrate their clients, staff, and community and recognize their work to support survivors and build a safer New York!

It is more important than ever to have safe spaces for young New Yorkers to play, learn, and connect. We recently celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Department of Youth and Community Development’s Saturday Night Lights program – initially created by our office! – and the role SNL plays in building trust between law enforcement and our youth.

Prosecuting Violent Crime We announced the indictment of Carlos Santiago for allegedly approaching and menacing a New York City Police Department Officer with a knife in East Harlem. “Members of the NYPD put their lives on the line every day to protect New Yorkers, and we will prosecute those who jeopardize their safety,” said D.A. Bragg.

Brittany Babb was also indicted for an alleged escalating pattern of arsons, including at an abandoned Chelsea apartment building that caused a 3-alarm fire. “While it is extremely fortunate that nobody was living in this building, the defendant’s alleged conduct threatened the safety of those working and living in the surrounding residential buildings and 24-hour bodega, which all experienced fire damage from the resulting blaze,” said D.A. Bragg.
