FAMLI Matters the newsletter for FAMLI claimants
May 21, 2026
This is an official communication from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment’s Family & Medical Leave Insurance Division.

While You’re Away

If you’re receiving this, it means you’re taking time away from work because something important needs your attention. That might be welcoming a new child, caring for someone you love, or focusing on your own health. Whatever brought you here, this is exactly why Colorado’s FAMLI exists.
We can’t prevent illness or solve every challenge families face. But we can provide a bit of stability, and the breathing room to focus on who and what matters most.

We’re glad to help you be there – and to make sure you have steady support, while you’re away. Thank you for being a part of our FAMLI.

Worth Knowing

Whether you just started your leave or are planning your return, here are a few steady reminders.

Questions? Check here BEFORE you call FAMLI

Many common claim questions can be answered with a quick review in your My FAMLI+ account. Checking a few details first may help move your claim forward faster.
Check these before you call

On intermittent, reduced schedule, or Neonatal Care leave?

Remember to log your leave hours weekly in your My FAMLI+ account. Payments begin once 8 hours of eligible leave have been reported, and continue weekly once hours are submitted.

Seeing an error message when reporting intermittent hours?

Your health care provider may have selected the “30-day Absence Parameters” option. With this option, FAMLI calculates a running total of your leave hours from the 30 days prior to your reporting – and you can’t report more leave hours in that timeframe than your approved Absence Parameters allow. To change this option, talk with your health care provider.

On continuous leave?

Your first payment will be made one week after your leave begins, and continue weekly on the same day each week.

Changes to your claim?

Don’t keep it a secret — file a new claim in My FAMLI+,  and submit an updated Serious Health Condition Form (SHCF) certified by your healthcare provider within 60 days. Your new claim can be approved only once the new SHCF is received.

Spotlight on Intermittent Leave

"Everything that you need could be just on the other side of fear."
When Kayla's home life became unsafe, leaving felt impossible. Court dates, therapy appointments, her daughter's care, and the fear of losing her job and paycheck were all pulling at her at once. Taking time away from work felt like a risk she couldn't afford.
FAMLI changed that calculation.
In this blog, Kayla, a Front Range mom using FAMLI's Safe Leave, shares how partial wage replacement gave her the financial distance she needed to protect herself and her daughter, show up to court, focus on her healing, and still feel like herself at work.

Help Someone You Love — Forward This Email

A friend expecting a baby. A sibling dealing with a health scare. A coworker managing more than they can share.
We all know someone who's going to need paid FAMLI leave someday, maybe even soon. But they may not know FAMLI exists, or just assumed it wasn't for them.
One forwarded email fixes that.
You don't have to explain anything. Just forward this to someone in your life who might need it one day. That's what FAMLI's community looks like in practice: people passing along something useful, just because they care.
