Roll up your sleeves and take action against invasive weeds |
May 26, 2026
Edmontonians are invited to help protect our parks and natural areas by participating in weekly invasive weed pulls this summer. The City is hosting more than 50 weed pulls and special events, offering residents a hands-on opportunity to learn more about invasive species and direct ways to reduce their impact. Registration is open at edmonton.ca/WeedPulls.
Invasive weeds grow quickly, reproduce rapidly and outcompete native plants for space and resources, often reducing biodiversity. Some notable invasive weeds found in Edmonton parks and natural areas include Himalayan balsam, creeping bellflower, purple loosestrife and garlic mustard. While Japanese knotweed is more commonly found on private property, it also poses a significant threat to Edmonton’s biodiversity.
Information about invasive weeds, including how to identify and report them, as well as provincial regulations, is available at edmonton.ca/Weeds. |
