Edmonton Fire Rescue Services officially welcomed 66 new members to its ranks today during Recruit Class 160’s formal graduation at City Hall. The graduating class represents the frontline professionals of municipal fire safety, introducing 54 firefighters, eight fire prevention officers and four emergency communications specialists, or dispatchers, to Edmonton’s fire service. |

As Edmonton continues to grow, these new members will immediately step into critical roles across the department to serve all Edmontonians. The four emergency communications specialists will join their colleagues in managing incoming calls for help at the Emergency Response Communication Centre, the eight fire prevention officers will deploy across the city to lead public education and fire safety inspections and the 54 frontline firefighters will join stations and crews throughout Edmonton, further enhancing service delivery.
"Today, we welcome a diverse and highly skilled group of professionals to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services," said Fire Chief David Lazenby. “From the critical first contact made by our communications specialists, to the frontline protection of our firefighters and the proactive safety inspections of our prevention officers, this team is ready to keep our city safe."
The graduation marks the conclusion of months of rigorous physical, mental and technical training. The cohort joins a fire service that has served as a cornerstone of community safety in Edmonton for more than a century.
"With Edmonton on track to welcome two million residents, the future will bring greater demands on our team," said Fire Chief Lazenby. "This graduating class is defined by its diverse perspectives and a collective commitment to protecting others. As they begin their careers, we look to them to champion our core values—service, safety, relationships and teamwork—and keep our growing city safe."
For those looking to answer the call, applications for Edmonton Fire Rescue Services firefighter recruitment open each year in January. |
